Well, he MUST be innocent because he hired one of the best defence attorneys money can buy. Marie Henein....who has a reputation for going for the jugular. Just days before being retained by Ghomeshi, she made this joke while emceeing a dinner for the Criminal Lawyers' Association: “As criminal lawyers we represent people who have committed heinous acts. Acts of violence. Acts of depravity. Acts of cruelty. Or as Jian Ghomeshi likes to call it, foreplay.” Something tells me she won't be re-iterating that witticism in court. It just might hurt her case. Instead, she will no doubt attempt to rip his accusers to shreds. And we wonder why women don't come forward. Meanwhile, some high-profile criminal defence lawyers have offered free advice to Ghomeshi's accusers...in terms of what to expect, should it come to cross-examination.

I don't see where his lawyer dropped him.
From the CBCNews site:
Ghomeshi's lawyer, Marie Henein, told the gathered reporters that her client would be pleading not guilty and there would be no further statements to the media. "We will defend and respond to these allegations fully and directly in a court of law," she said.

If his lawyers win by badgering witnesses he'll still come out looking like an a--hole. The guy is a pariah now & rightfully so. He's finished as any kind of broadcaster on a major outlet.
RE: his lawyer. If you will defend a loser like David Frost you'll take anybody. Nice company Ghomeshi is keeping now.

Just bad timing, franko. I was hoping you were correct! I think all of his business associates have dropped him. And good point about Henein, jkr.

Part of his bail conditions is that he has to live with his mother. Could it get more awkward?

CBC regularly has someone from Navigator on as a commentator - Jaime Watt who is executive chairman. Too much of a conflict probably.

Frost's 2008 acquittalUnderlined are the arguments used by Henein. One of the women said Frost, age 29 at the time, persisted in having group sex with her and her boyfriend for a number of years.
The defence conceded that group sex is common among hockey players, but vehemently denied Frost ever took part in the sex acts.
Judge Geoff Griffin of the Ontario Court of Justice cleared Frost of the charges, adding the trial "exposed a dark and very unhealthy side of hockey."
"It's extremely offensive and must be denounced," Griffin said in giving his verdict.
The women testified that Frost held great power over the young players and controlled every part of their lives, including telling them when they could have sex with their girlfriends and instructing them about specific positions.
Frost faced two counts alleging he directly or indirectly sexually touched the two players, while the other two counts alleged he instructed the players to sexually touch their girlfriends.
In his ruling, Griffin suggested the women's testimony was "possibly tainted by collusion."
Frost and the players involved have denied the allegations. In a twist, the former players — the alleged victims in the case — appeared as witnesses for the defence.
Defence lawyer Marie Henein said the charges against Frost arose out of collusion between the two women. Henein also indicated to one of the women during cross-examination that the alleged threesomes involving Frost and her boyfriend were a "figment of your imagination."
"They happened," the woman replied. "I'm not making this up. Why would I make this up?"================================================================= While I understand the need for checks and balances to ensure the prosecution proves guilt beyond a reasonable doubt….Heinen's quote regarding Gomeshi (at the top of this page, made before he retained her services) points out that criminal defence attorneys sometimes know that their client is guilty. In such a case, there are ethical limits the defence is supposed to stay within. For example, if they know their client is going to lie, they have to report the perjury. It takes a savvy judge to see through it if they don't report it. Lots of room to play in that area. Henein flat-out called these girls liars and entered "collusion" between them as her defence. The judge couldn't get into the "control" Frost had over the players…that's another issue. So, the players siding with Frost and the collusion angle were all the judge needed to find reasonable doubt. It's important to remember that "not guilty" doesn't necessarily mean "innocent". That's the dirty side of the legal system. I mean…there's working for justice for your client…then there's working for your client's best interests. Sure will be interesting to see what tactics Henein's team uses against the Ghomeshi women. The prosecution better be iron-clad.
