Pooch this and we are going to prove our "they are an average team that wss lucky" in the league. Win this and it's a huge confidence/reputation boost.

Thanks fellas ... you're very welcome ... I don't know if I'll always have the time but if I do, I'll try to keep it going ... Chicago can be had but it will take a huge effort ... as was already pointed out, Chicago has been losing of late ... would be nice to keep that trend going ... have to take these guys out ...
Cheers.

Love those calendars Dis! Use to have them on my wall when i was a kid!
Two teams in slumps. I fear one will break out and i 'me betting it's the one who has a coach that will make some changes.
How MT just keeps doing the same thing over and over is beyond me. He finally mixes the lines last game and he was not very patient. Chucky got to play centre for a period. PP continue to struggle which in my view is all coaching.
Not so sure it was the lines last game or no one had any legs. Even PK and BGal looked sluggish. Here's a thought: why not put some fresh blood in the lineup and see the energy they bring.
The boys better be ready because Toews, Kane, and Keith will be pumped for a game in Mtl.

In preparation for the game, I thought I'd attach a piece on Lars Eller because while we're in the weeds, sometimes we miss the bigger picture. www.habseyesontheprize.com/analysis/2014/11/3/7148985/lars-ellers-play-was-the-lone-bright-spot-against-the-flames Lars Eller's play was the lone bright spot against the Flames
By Andrew Berkshire Jean-Yves Ahern-USA TODAY Sports
After the game Michel Therrien was asked if there were any positives at all to take from the loss to Calgary, he said no. He was wrong.
It's tough to say whether Lars Eller slotting in on Tomas Plekanec going into the game against the Calgary Flames was a promotion to a better line, or a demotion away from playing center, but my best guess is that he was a bit of an afterthought while the real goal was getting Alex Galchenyuk to play center.
Whatever the intension, it only lasted one period, and Eller only played 11.35 minutes at even strength against the Flames, the fifth least among all 18 skaters. What he did in those minutes though, was extremely impressive, and I don't mean the goal he scored.
While Lars Eller was on the ice against the Flames, the Canadiens have up a measly two shot attempts against at even strength, just two. As you can imagine, that led to Eller leading all Habs players in Corsi for percentage with 78% of shot attempts being controlled by Montreal while he was on the ice, but that's not the truly impressive part. What's impressive is that while Eller was on, the Canadiens conceded shot attempts, not shots, but shot attempts, at a rate of just 10.6 against per 60 minutes played. While Eller was off the ice, they conceded shot attempts at a rate of 63.7 against per 60 minutes played.
Essentially, Eller was an absolute wizard defensively in a game where almost the entire team was terrible, scored a goal, and still played fewer minutes than Dale Weise. Who's really struggling?
While a lot has been made of Lars Eller's offensive struggles this season, his goal against the Flames has brought him up to three points five-vs-five, just one fewer than David Desharnais, in about 21 fewer minutes of ice time, and while playing with inferior teammates.
It's getting tougher and tougher to justify the Eller hate in the media, just look at the two players side by side.
eller vs desharnais
Through 12 games, Eller has essentially put up the same or close to the same production, nearly the exact same rate of possession, while playing far tougher minutes, with lesser teammates, and far less opportunity to create offense in the first place.
Christopher Boucher broke down Eller's season in even more detail recently, and it's about time the Dane gets some respect from the fanbase.

Bit of history. That 1967 Chicago picture is the last one featuring Esposito, Hodge, and Stanfield. They finished first overall, but lost to the Leafs in Round 1. At the year-end party, a drunk Espo reportedly said to Coach Reay and GM Ivan: “ We’ve got a great team here, you could almost have a dynasty, but you two are gonna screw it up.”Less than a month later, Ivan traded Espo, Hodge, and Stanfield to the Bruins for Pit Martin, Gilles Marotte, and Jack Norris. We all know how it worked out for Boston. Regarded as one of the most lop-sided trades ever. Marotte stayed for only 3 seasons and goalie Norris played just 10 games, but Martin stayed with the Hawks for a long time and was very productive. In reading the linked piece above, I was reminded that Martin died tragically when his snowmobile went through the ice 6 years ago this month.

Just heard that Bournival is in tonight. Don't know who's out.
Have to presume either Moen or Bourque.
EDIT: Looks like Moen is out, according to the lines.
Fourth line duty for Bournival….

Feel free to keep that trivia coming, CH ... especially for the Original Six matchups ... very good stuff ... I just bought a book written by Bruce Hood and I only flipped through it so far, but he has some good stories from back in the day ... anything to do with hockey history is always a good read ... Cheers.

Thanks Habsorbed ... I have a few franed single sheets on my wall downstairs ... one of my faves is a team picture of the 1961-62 Hull-Ottawa Canadiens ... $10 bucks at the Smith's Falls flea market ... the photo includes the late Brian Smith of CJOH Ottawa ... he was the sports anchor (along with Bill Paterson) who was gunned down a few years back ... RIP ... that aside, if you look at the lineup you can get a good idea how the Habs and St Louis Blues (AKA Habs West) stocked their clubs ... Cheers.

Swapping out Moen for Bournival is the least MT can do. This team needs a jolt of energy and commitment and Bournival has that in spades. I'm sure he's chomping at the bit to get in there. He'd be ideal on the 3rd line with Eller and Bourque. Light a fire under those dudes.

It's about time Sekaj has to find away in as well and at. One point Tinordi Beaulieu have to play on the same night.....IMO without an outside upgrade go with the kids the cleansing of this group is not quite complete....still real window 2 years away

Why am I even thinking this? Forgive me fellas, I lost my head there for a moment.

The game's not being shown on he stations I have available, so occasionally I catch bits on 'NHL on the Fly", but no views other than that. MY comments are likely to be ignorant in the true sense of the word.
