Saw Bourque play last night against Flames. Or should say that from time to time I noticed a guy with Bourque written on the back of his sweater skating around (and around and around). Don't miss him a bit. Had to laugh when they interviewed him between periods and he says he prefers to play out west as it is more his style of game - I think Western teams might feel slighted by that comment. Yes, I have to get in the last word.

I was trying to figure out if there was a method to the madness besides getting rid of contracts.... What do we need on defense? More puck movement and tougher defense. The defence corps just got deeper with Allen in the lineup ... another NHL-proven veteran added to a pretty deep core of defencemen ... If the youngsters don't have it by next year then Bergevin may have to look at bringing in more "has beens" ... like Gonchar, Allen's best years are behind him, but Beaulieu and Tinordi can learn a lot from these guys ... they simply have to apply it ... Using the hyperlink BLNY provided there's a few potential playoff rentals who'd do well in Montreal but unless they play for a bottom-feeder kind of team then I can't see their clubs letting them go ... that said, Bergevin is setting himself up for another deep playoff run ... I actually feel pretty good about our club right now, but if he lands a goal-scorer by the trade deadline ... man ... Bergevin drew praise from his peers at the trade deadline last year ... wonder what they're saying about him now ... Cheers.

Small sample size, but so far not very good. He's as slow as Douglas Murray was (maybe slower, if possible!) and he hasn't thrown any of the big hits Murray would occasionally dish out.
We shall see, I guess.

Thanks BC ... I'm wondering who/what else Bergevin could have gotten for Rene Bourque, but Bryan Allen might have been the even-Steven standard ... maybe he's just not used to playing in a mad house like Montreal, I really don't know ... hope he picks up his game ...
Cheers.

Very good link, christrpn ... hadn't realized just how much Allen's play has dropped off in recent years ... but Bergevin's strategy is brilliant ... Cheers.

I don't think it's all that much a strategy as taking the assets required to get rid of the Bourque and Moen contracts.
I'd be surprised if we moved either Gonchar or Allen by the deadline, at least not for anything worthwhile (ie, maybe Allen for a 5th rounder to a team desperate for D)

And that explains the demotions and gives hope to those of us who would like to see both Nathan and Jared in the line-up. If that article is correct it will happen late this season or next for sure. I can live with that. (as if it mattered whether I could live with it or not )

Cheers.

Poor Rene... says he didn't get a chance in MOntreal this year. link"Loaded with talent" That last line says it all from Boudreau - "I expect more from him". BB will be saying that all season. FYI - 4GP , one assist; -1

He's not very honest with himself. Those comments smack of excuses. “It was just a matter of getting with the right fit with the right team. I lost my place in Montreal and never really got a chance this year."
It's one thing if you're not given any ice time. That's a reasonable excuse. His reasons are lame. Like his game.

Oh, it's Bryan Allan. I would be better if it was Bryan Adams from Vancouver. Either way it's an improvement.
