Price was sharp...especially when it was 2-1 early in the third. Two huge stops.
We didn't take a penalty!
What the....?
Bravo boys! Still on top!
Max with two birthday goals...1st star.
3rd star, Gonchar. 2nd star, Price.

After the first I said the Habs would have to dig deep and find ways to score ugly. It sort of happened. Weise's goal was a gift, but it seemed to be enough to get things going. Gotta love Pacioretty when he's involved.

Blues played their back up. Bit of a lack of respect considering they're playing one of the top teams in the East. Allen made some good saves at times, but he's a gambler and a scrambler.
Pleased with the effort. Overall, they did a good job keeping the Blues to the outside. Blues are big at every position. We struggled down low at times, but managed.
Gotta be pleased with no penalties.

Nice to have the Leafs beat the Bolts 5-2 (empty net).
Leafs save some jobs...so the mediocrity will continue.

Good win vs a good team.

Yeah, this was important to save some face. Once again, we come back after giving up the first goal. I didn't see it, but it seems a result we can be pleased with. St. Louis doesn't have a bunch of injuries, they've been playing well, and they're a contender. And we beat them fair and square with an even shot total, so Carey didn't have to steal the win. Good result. The PP still sucks though. Gotta fix that.

How about Dale Weise?

Better team won tonight. Was happy with our game except the first part of the 3rd. We were lacklustre and Carey was the difference until we got the insurance goal.
Our PP was not only bad, it was a momentum killer. MT has to decide what the units are. He kept mixing up the D pairings. I would give Eller line some PP time.
Sekac is going to be a great player. Man i love this guy. Big, great skater, great shot, and an IQ to go with it.
PK is playing well in our end but other than some good forward passing his offensive threat has disappeared. He rushed over the Blues blue line on a PP tonight and I think that was the first time I've seen him rush in 3 weeks.

Ho-hum, another win.
Habsorbed is right in my opinion; the Habs were the better team. And by a fair margin in my opinion. Yes, Carey Price had to make some big stops, and if the goalies were reversed the score might have been reversed, but goalies are part of the team, right? If the goalies were reversed we'd all be saying "we were the better team... but we need a better goalie." Well, we got the better goalie, and we were the better team. Convincing win.
There are some issues still of course. The defense has yet to be dominant, and we need Subban to step forward and be "that guy". For as good as he is playing - and he's not playing badly - he's not a game changer at the moment. The "defense by committee" thing is fine, but it would still be nice to know that you can put PK out there to stabilize things, or get a goal, or swing momentum, or what have you. He's not the go-to guy just yet. As much as he wants to be. The power-play is still a black hole, though it is showing some signs of life, and I still think we aren't that battle-tested just yet. We're starting to get bigger and stronger, but in a war of attrition we still don't really know how guys like Sekac and Galchenyuk are going to play, and they will be key cogs in a long playoff run. Our depth has also not really been tested, as we have been ridiculously healthy all year long (knock on wood). Hopefully that doesn't come back to bite us later in the season.
I think we are one elite offensive winger and one top 4 defenseman away from being legitimate, we-can-beat-the-West, Cup contenders. Tall order of course, everybody wants an elite offensive winger and another top 4 defenseman, but I think that will put us over the top. Whether that comes internally, or externally remains to be seen.
(and they have to stay relatively healthy of course, but that goes for every team)

The team still seems a bit schizophrenic. I don't like how we've been absolutely blown out in all of our regulation losses by the combined score of 23-5. You want to see that consistency and I find we are less disciplined defensively than in years past, particularly the forwards. They tend to cheat a bit too much.
But hey, can't argue with 15-5-1.

Agreed on both counts. There's room for improvement in a number of areas and we still have a sterling record. I think last night was the closest they've come to a 60 minute effort. There was a lag at the beginning of the third, but they seemed to get it back. The Blues are a hard team. Big at every position, and physical; they can and do wear on you. If I'm looking at the Blues from the West, I think their Achilles heal is in goal. I'm not convinced Elliot and Allen are the duo to take them all the way. Imagine that team with Price in net. I think they'd be clear cut the team to beat.

If Dale plays for another 100 years, he'll be the Team's all time goal scorer. Go Dale!
