IMO Ference is no leader. This is a guy that gave the finger to an opposition crowd & then lied about it to save himself from suspension. He didn't own up to it until several years later. Speaks volumes about his lack of character. And this is their captain!
Besides that, he's just not very good. He couldn't cover his man in the crease on both the tying and winning goals last night. And it was fun watching Trouba run right over him late in the 3rd. The Oilers, as usual, are just picking the wrong guys.

Katz has to grow a pair. He needs to bring in a guy from outside the clique, fire the lot, and organize a group that will truly get them back to their glory days. New president, hockey ops department, and pro scouting. Once they have a little bit of success during a season, then you can truly evaluate their amateur scouting department.

I don't believe Katz is liked either. This is one of the richest people in Canada (Forbes ranks him as #11 in Canada. Worth about 2.6 billion USD) & he held the city up for a new arena. Montreal & Toronto built their own stadiums. This idiot should too.

If it's more than just a cash grab and the old boys club, he should bring in someone from outside the inner circle and clean house.

I felt Ference did what he did and said what he said, because the Bruins were in a 'screw-you' mode during the entire playoff run ... they said what they wanted, to who they wanted, when they wanted mainly because it gave the team a good laugh ... didn't mind paying the paltry fines the league handed out ... what did Ference pay? $2,500? ... that probably covers what he spends on chewing gum annually ... that kind of corrective action was a joke that basically gave the Bruins a carte blanche to do/say whatever they wanted ... I agree with you, though ... if this is the best Edmonton can do for captain then they deserve to be where they are ... besides, it's not like Ference has anyone backing him up as it is now ... Cheers.

A cut and paste from TSN.ca: Oilers GM MacTavish says everything under evaluationEDMONTON - Edmonton Oilers general manager Craig MacTavish says everything in the organization is under evaluation as the last-place team continues to underperform despite an influx of high draft picks and young talent in recent years. MacTavish told a news conference today the coaching staff, led by second-year head coach Dallas Eakins, and the players are "under scrutiny." Eakins' future has been called into question several times already this season as the Oilers have managed just six wins and are currently mired in an 11-game losing streak ... more/suite

This article goes a bit further with MacT's response to, "Aren't you part of this problem?" Is it MacTavish’s fault? His intense forensic investigation has discovered that …. … no. No, this is totally not his fault, according to no less an authority as Craig MacTavish. When grouped in with Kevin Lowe and Scott Howson as part of the Oilers’ braintrust, MacTavish bristled. “I’ve been on the job for 18 months. So you want to lop me in … I coached the team for a long time, but I have nothing to do with management. So don’t lop me into a situation of power and influence in the management level of this organization,” he said.
MacTavish coached the Oilers for eight seasons. The idea that he didn’t have input on player personnel decisions is, frankly, nonsensical. So essentially here he’s passed the buck for the poor construction of this roster over the years to former GM Steve Tambellini and Kevin Lowe, who is MacTavish’s boss and currently being helped from under a bus.
But MacTavish has attempted to position himself not as another example of the franchise’s addiction to nostalgia and cronyism, but as an “outsider” that is coming in to fix this mess. And claiming this isn’t his mess – and the lack of restructuring in both the roster and the team’s maligned scouting department says it is, at least partially – helps establish that persona. What a mess….from the top-down. The players can no doubt sense it.

Found this comment below the story which really made me laugh: The problem is that too many Maple Leaf fans live in Edmonton and their presence puts pressure on the Oilers to want to keep losing - that's my opinion anyway.

It makes the brief period where Houle and Tremblay were in charge seem so much less damaging.

Right....but for him to say he hasn't been a part of the problem, after having coached for 8 years....is a bit on the ludicrous side.
A coach has input on player acquisition and development.

Nothing but self serving drivel. His team is visually appealing. What the hell dos that mean? It's an old boys club there. that's how they get these jobs. Howson leaves Edmonton, goes to Columbus, gets fired there and then gets his old job back with the Oilers. Really? The guy proved with 2 different teams that he's incompetent but he knows Kevin Lowe so....

From 2000 to 2008/09 his coaching record wasn't bad, including losing in the finals in 2006 after Roloson got hurt. So he hadn't been with the Oilers since mid 2009, which is when they really dredged bottom. He returned in 2013 and can't turn the Titanic around that quickly. I think he has a point, CH. He hasn't been around for the real tanking.
