We shouldn't conclude from the Leaf game that we'll see a weak Ducks team. They have a good record and some really good players.

We shouldn't conclude from the Leaf game that we'll see a weak Ducks team. They have a good record and some really good players. Bernier saw another 42 shots last night, stoat ... it's the same pattern we saw last year before we saw the late-season meltdown ... both their goaltending and their defensive game went south and eventually that was the end of their season ... Anaheim won't be a pushover by any stretch ... simply have to beat these guys ... Cheers.

nothing about the return of Bourque? I guess they figured he would be too tired after the civic celebrations, the awarding of honorary degrees, and of course the brief but tasteful parade.

Looking forward to seeing what the Habs are going to do to honour Saku. I remember when he first became sick, there was a cartoon one of the news papers printed, It showed Saku's locker with superman's cape hanging in it. It was an awesome tribute to him.

Pretty tough December for us Habs fans outside of the viewing region. First missing the Beliveau tribute live and now missing Saku's tribute live.
Tonight Mrs NWT joins the crowd of miffed Habs' fans who are not pleased with the new TV deal as Saku was her favourite player. Up to this point, she was quite happy with the amount of free time on the big TV in the house.

Some interesting stats. Of note, in Habs all time top ten scoring, the only player with fewer games played was Geoffrion.
It's always a case of what might have been for me. Love the guy. My favorite Hab after Roy left. It's a pity he never got surrounded with line mates at his level during his prime years. Tonight will be emotional to say the least.

That will always be my argument blny .... Who did Saku have here in Montreal? You look at that top 20 list. Pairs of players jump out at you ...Lafleur-Lemaire, Richard-Blake, Beliveau-Cournoyer (a few for Beliveau actually). Heck even Naslund had Tremblay. Now, do you see anyone to pair with Koivu? I guess the argument can be made that Koivu didn't make his linemates better. I don't but it though. Who was his best linemate in Montreal? Ryder? Ryder is 71st on the all-time list. Saku could have been special, real special, if the organization wasn't in shambles back then ...

That year he was leading the league in scoring when he blew out his knee saw him playing with Corson and Recchi. Sadly, I think it's the best line he was ever a part of.

Saku could have been special, real special, if the organization wasn't in shambles back then ... And he was willing to stick around but Gainey chose a different direction ... I was very, very disappointed in the way Gainey handled Koivu ... outright disgraceful comes to mind ... no correspondences whatsoever ... business or no, Koivu was not afforded the respect he quite clearly earned while he was in Montreal and it made for bad karma ... he's back tonight, though and I'll be tuning in for sure ... a very special night for both the city and Saku ... Chapeau!!

And remember the 2 or 3 years of record-setting man-games-lost-to-injury years somewhere between 1998-2001?
Vigneault coached at least two of those seasons…and I remember Jeff Hackett almost getting us into the playoffs one year, despite the injuries.
To achieve all-time #10 scoring status and #3 among centres is remarkable, considering everything in his way.

Vigneault was the fall guy because Houle felt he had to do something ... Saku always seemed to be on crutches ... tough time because Toronto was dominant and at one point our top line was "la ligne rouge" ... Petrov/Zholtok (RIP)/Zubrus were holding the fort ... saw Zholtok in Vancouver when he played for the Minnesota Wild ... Cheers.

Nice tip of the cap to JC Tremblay who also passed awat recently. Do you mean Gilles Tremblay, who died a week before Beliveau? J.C. Tremblay passed away 20 years ago...just a year after, as Saku said, convincing Savard to draft him. He had donated a kidney to save his daughter in 1979....and, sadly, he died of kidney cancer 15 years later.

He's going to take some time in Montreal the next few days, enjoy the holidays, and then think about where the family wants to live. Wherever that is, I hope Molson reaches out to him. Whether it's as a global ambassador for the team, or in a front office capacity of some sort, I'd love to see them find a place for him within the organization.
