For 2015 First Rounder. Won't be a high pick, but it is a deep draft. I don't think Perron was a problem in Edmonton, though. It should help both teams. I wonder what the CAP implications are? Penguins have picked up a $3.8MM contract for this year and next. They were close to the limit, I thought.

Just in time for tomorrow's game.
Perron must be overjoyed with this move.

Crap. I was hoping Berg would find a way to get Perron in MTL. A first rounder was a bit rich though

Would have liked Perron..a good pure scorer and he would have injected some real help to our top 6. As you say, a first rounder in this year's draft is steep. We may have been able to give the Oilers some immediate help that perhaps the Penguins wouldn't want to give up (Derrick Pouliot for example).

You know what, though, eh ... me thinks Pittsburgh just got better, too ... the Pens demoted Jayson Megna to make room ... gotta take this one tonight ... Cheers.

Perron's a pure shooter imo, which should fit really well with Sid or Geno. His release is very good, and he scores from everywhere. I knew nothing about Klinkhammer. He's a throw in. Warm body. He's 2 years older than Perron, and played only 139 NHL games since turning pro in 2007.

IMO, what Pitt gave up for Perron (signed through next year) is akin to our likely first and Tangradi. Have to think there were offers out there of roster players going to Edmonton. The Oilers just preferred the pick and cap space.

In terms of value, it's a good deal for Edmonton.
In terms of EDM's situation, this is horrible. They had a fairly solid young veteran and they needed to add to him, not move out the one guy who cared. They needed to do like Buffalo and get guys like Gorges and Gionta - maybe not stars on the ice, but solid, respected veterans who know what a team needs to do to win. I've got no idea who's available right now who fits the bill, but the last thing Edmonton needs to add is another kid. Throwing more 1st rounders into the lineup with little to no veterans to mentor them, and they won't go anywhere.

They did pick up Derek Roy and Klinkhammer. I don't know if they fit the leadership model, but they aren't young and Roy would be classed as a vet and is a badly needed #2 centre for them. When you're that bad, the sharks circle a lot, so making a fair deal isn't as easy as one might think. McTavish seems to be handling it ok so far. He shouldn't have kept Draisaitl up as long as they did, but that again might have been because they had no one else.

Agreed, with their drafting history, other than Eberle, unless it's a top 5 no-brainer the guy will be a bust. Pitts is going to be 20th or later. They've really had some bad luck with their later picks. Saw somewhere that several guys picked immediately after an Oiler later round choice were mostly solid nhlers. It's not like they're off the board picks either. The guys are picked about where they are ranked. Any of us could have run their drafts and probably had better luck. You'd have to have a self destructive future precognition to do worse.

Roy appears to be very much on the downturn and doesn't seem to have much in terms of leadership.... not really a good fit for a rebuilding team IMO.

Beggars can't be choosers. I agree with you, but in the Oilers case, he's better than anyone else that was available cheap.
