Carey was solid when he had to be....and the boys played a great road game against a legit contender who has been awesome at home.
Both teams played last night....so it was a level playing surface in that respect.
9-1-0 in our last 10. 6th straight W. 5-for-5 on this last road trip.
16-0-0 when scoring first.
18-1-0 when leading after 2, (I think).
Strombo just said it's the first time the Habs have gone 5-0-0 on a road trip since 1988-89.
Friedman....he'd give Price a vote for the Hart.

Pretty darn solid effort. As good a road game as you can ask for from the boys. Chapeau.
DD on the third line wing looks better than first line centre. Win win.

4-1 in Pittsburgh ... a good team effort in that everyone played well ... found Desharnais to be our most visual forward ... Bournival with a strong effort, too ... Subban awarded a late assist on Gilbert's goal ... he used the boards to spring Pacioretty away which created the odd-man rush ... Subban with 27:04 TOI, followed by Markov with 24:58 ...
Cheers.

Didn't Kypreos and Hrudey laugh at a vote for Price? I caught the last half where they joked to Friedman about voting for the goalie for the Hart.
Also, Randorf makes a comment during the telecast that Montreal doesn't score first often. 16 times they scored first, that means 23 times they didn't. It's not as skewed as they try to make it

With Subban's assist he moves into 14th place on the Habs defensemen all time list
14. PK Subban. 323GP. 50G. 144A. 194pts 15. Emile Bouchard. 785GP. 49G. 144A 193pts

That crew is still having a tough time giving enough cred to the Habs. Carey has been great this season, pretty well the team's Molson Cup perennial winner and leader without a letter. That is at least Hart consideration worthy. Not as goofy as dufus Kipper and Hrudey Toot Toot made it out to be.

Four games in a row, Habs score first. Don't think that's a coincidence. 5-0 on a holiday road trip has to feel great. Doesn't get easier. Next game on home ice is against Tampa. Can't have that first home game let down.

Hrudey was laughing because Friedman said he finds it hard to vote for a goalie since they play 20 less games and he was saying does every player play full out every shift for 82 games. Hrudey was accused of being goalie bias.

Really good win. Kudos to Therrien for having them prepared to go right off the start, and for the forechecking clinic they put on. Lots of effort by the guys, who didin't forget to backcheck either.
There was one play early in the 3rd where Letang took off, outskated all our forwards and crossed our blueline at light speed. PK just took the puck off him like candy from a baby. It was such an awesome defensive display, like Robinson used to pull off. You come down, I take the puck away and we go back the other way. There was no drama about it at all. Check, take puck, go other way. Didn't PK have a super game? Understated, but really strong.
So many players had really solid games. I thought Eller especially was really strong. Gilbert had one of his best games as well and Emelin was very strong too. I hope that goal he scored gives him some badly needed confidence. That was a heavy, heavy shot. You wouldn't want to block that one.
Just looked over the Penguins roster and their defense is not one that would scare anyone. They need to get Paul Martin and Ollie Maata back.
And don't you think Desharnais is better as a winger than as a center? I do. He's certainly been more productive. He has an easier time in his own end and he's still sneaky in the other end. He's also shooting a lot more and that makes him much more dangerous. You can't just play the pass on him anymore. It's great. All it took was another month long drought at centre.
Now let see if Therrien can get the guys to repeat that performance against Tampa. To me, that's even more of a statement game than this one. They need to shut down Tyler Johnson IMO. Nail him down and it'll be an easier win. Let's do it!

Hrudey was laughing because Friedman said he finds it hard to vote for a goalie since they play 20 less games and he was saying does every player play full out every shift for 82 games. Hrudey was accused of being goalie bias. Friedman says some queer things sometimes ... So his #1 criteria for the Hart is games played. I imagine he considers Lemieux's Hart as bogus since he didn't play all the games. It's not how many you play, it's how many you are the best player on the ice. Now Elliott, show me another player who is the best player as much as Carey Price. The number one thing I hear from Maple Leaf fans is Montreal would be nothing without Carey Price. And the Toronto media love to keep telling us that without Price, the score would be 5-1 , because we are too small, and our defense is too slow. It's funny how they all back pedal to attempt to throw water on Montreal players abilities.

Boys played great. No one had a bad game. Some (Gilbert +4, emeilin, Eller, Subban, DD, Gally) played great. Thought Fleury played very well to keep Pens in the game and should have been a star. PK's defence is very strong. He's sacrificed some offence for that and I'm not sure I'm in favour of the trade off but i'll accept his D is very good. Perhaps it will all come together and he may be the best all around D ever Beau did not have one of his stronger games but still held his own. He's mastered the PK flip shot out of the zone which is a major asset. Gally is just such an inspiration. Probably should have been called on our first goal but he just loves going to the action and making things happen. Absolutely love the guy.

On the Price v. Rinne debate, I would side with Rinne. He is far and away the best player on the Preds and does not have the team Price has. Price is great but Rinne is having an unbelievable season.
As for Elliot, I use to like him but find he has declined in the last year. Seems very defensive surrounded by all the former pros and their bravado. Perhaps more importantly from my perspective, he seems reluctant to give the Habs any credit. He's not alone there but as a "journalist" i expect more from him.

I disagree with both of them ... Nashville is better team than Montreal? By what measure Elliott? He mentioned their D - specifically Weber & Josi. BTW - did Friedman watch the Predators 3rd period meltdown against the Kings? Don't get me wrong, Weber is still a very good defenseman, but I don't think he's the powerhouse he has been in the past. I looked over the Preds roster and I'm not sure where Hrudey gets the idea they're a better team. On D, there's Weber and then you have to go to Josi, I guess. I don't know a lot about him. Volchenkov and Seth Jones are next. Volchenkov had a lot of warts and Jones has been given a lot of favourable situations according to the advanced stats guys. Ryan Ellis is next and he also has his share of warts. AFter that, it's two guys called Ekholm and Bartley. Again I know little about them. They're certainly younger than our guys, but when you have Markov and Gonchar, just about everyone is younger. UP front, while everyone says we're weak at centre, their top guys are Fisher, Ribeiro, Wilson and Gaustad. I'd take ours over theirs any day. Anyway, to me it's a toss up. They're probably a lot like us. If their goaltending isn't good, they lose. Throw a lot of teams into that category. I think the Preds will come down to earth in due course. Laviolette has a consistent history. He comes in and the team does immediately better (especially if he has a guy who pokes out other guys' eyes). After that his message gets lost and it's downhill and he gets fired. It's only a matter of time. Confident, aren't I?

Then shouldn't Price's season be considered just as unbelievable? The media makes it sound like RINNE is heads and shoulders above the rest , ... He is very marginally ahead of Price, at the moment.

I used to look forward to "After 40 Minutes" segment on CBC but to be honest it doesn't bother me if I miss the between-periods scrums ... I don't like the format and I don't like the insights ... Nick Kyreos knows the game but I've never gotten used to him ... I still don't mind Pierre Lebrun's perspective ... Strombo is trying his best but he doesn't know the game as well as he should for facilitating the guided discussions on the NHL ... I haven't listened to Friedman all that much because I just don't tune in as often as I used to ... it's still very Toronto-centric ... the Leafs were the toast of the NHL and TSN, Sportsnet and CBC just jumped on the bandwagon ... I talk to Leaf fans quite often and they're a really deflated bunch ... understandable once you figure how the major sports media outlets pander to them ...
Cheers.

Right on, Dis. What's even more insulting is HNIC's deliberate anti-Habs playoff coverage since the turn of the century…. especially last season when Montreal was the ONLY Canadian-based participant. Right from the panels to the play-by-play. Beyond contemptuous. Kicked off by Ron MacLean telling viewers to go to the HNIC website to see a list of Canadian-born players on other playoff teams "so you can still cheer for Canada". You'll never hear or sense a "Hey Canada! Let's get behind the Habs!" mentality coming from them. If we had made the Finals, it would have been wall-to-wall Drew Doughty. 24 Cups will do that, I suppose.

I heard these guys doing a Pens Florida game & you could hear the bias there too. Brutal. Michel Therrien coached Pittsburgh. You would think they could get his name right. It's Michel, not Michael. Ed Olcyck does this too (Clod Giroux ). IMO it's unprofessional. Do a little homework & get the guy's name right.

Homerism from Mike Lang and the regional folks is what you expect. It's their job to pander to the hometown crowd. National broadcasts are quite the opposite. Whether it's CBC, TSN, or Sportsnet, pulling the strings, it doesn't matter. Should be the same result: an unbiased presentation of the event. Critical analysis from 'experts' who show no allegiance or willingness to pander.
I think back to the 90s. Guys like Al Strachan were on the panel. They were clearly Toronto reporters, but they never, ever, sugar coated things. Al loved to tell it like he saw it, and he loved to fluster Milbury towards the end of his time with CBC. I miss those days, when actual reporters with some semblance of integrity were on the panel instead of paid ex athletes and social media reporters whoring themselves.
I watched the first couple of weeks of Strombo on HNIC, and it came off as awkward. I don't think it was entirely his doing. While he seems to have rapport with current players, the guys on the panel seemed different. I can't put my finger on it, but I'd be curious to know what the off screen relationship is like between Strombo and the establishment. Those masochists who still watch, has it gotten smoother? Has George at least tried to hold people accountable (like MacLean used to)?
