From Eric Duhatschek:
And speaking of unsubstantiated trade rumors, if the Flames do trade a defenceman (something that is less likely now that Mike Commodore is out with a bad shoulder), it is more likely they'd move Toni Lydman than the oft-rumored Denis Gauthier. The reason? Lydman, a poor man's Nicklas Lidstrom, meets the criteria most teams want in defensive help, that is, a defenceman who can play in their top four. From Calgary's perspective, Lydman's salary jumps to $2.4-million next year and that makes him a little expensive for their blood. Calgary's primary need is for help down the middle, where they'd used converted wingers for much of the past two months, as a result of injuries to Stephane Yelle, Blair Betts and others.

$2.4 million! No thanks . I bet a lot of teams pass on that.

Is that guaranteed on his contract ? Or is that a guess-timate on how much he will ask for ?

Tony Lydman?
No thanks... I'd rather have Gauthier.

Calgary is not going to upset a good thing by making a trade. At least not at this moment. They've got a series of tough games coming up (the games against the Habs notwithstanding) and the team is on a roll. Let's see what happens after these games and then you can start the rumors.
