If you would have told me at the beginning of the season, that Hab's fans would be this excited on January 28th because Hamilton beat Syracuse, well............ never mind.

After a slow start, Higgins is catching up to Balej. Plekanec is ahead of Balej, although I'd like him to erase that -5.
Higgins 44 12 12 24 +3 Balej 42 12 15 27 -1 Plekanec 47 16 17 33 -5
With Perezhogin doing well in Russia and Kostitsyn gradually developing in Hamilton, and with Ward finding his groove, Locke exceeding expectations, and Milroy showing some favorable signs (not to mention Chipchura), it appears as though the Habs will have adequate depth at the forward positions. If only we could say the same about the defense!

You are right that we can smile about some good developments; but............ The team is not leading the AHL and is hovwering around .500, none of the players are remotely close to the AHL scoring lead as other teams have players doing much better. I hate to be the half-empty glass guy, but again I see the Habs with a lot of depth and few genuine potential superstars. Defense is a problem and my guy Danis has a superb start and a shutout last night, but still has a way to go to display consistancy.

True, there are few potential superstars (Kostitsyn is a dark horse), but how many teams have as many as two? Most don't have even one. And superstar forwards can't play on every other even strength shift without becoming a liability through sheer fatigue. I believe the Bulldogs would be able to score more if they had a couple of good offensive defensemen, or even if they had a couple of good defensive defensemen who can gain possession of the puck in their own end and get it out past the blueline with regularity. You can't score if you're constantly being hemmed in. Remember when the Devils swept the Red Wings in the Cup finals? It wasn't because they were loaded with superstars but because they had the puck most of the time.
