Bastards!
The good news is that in the Dogs' last two losses, sandwiching Danis' shutout, they managed 46 and 38 shots respectively. Just bad luck running into two sharp goalies in those two games. Also nice to see Higgins keep it going offensively with his 4th point and third goal in the last two games.
The bad news is that the Dogs once again blew a lead; 2-1 this time. Also not nice seeing Plekanec and Higgins on the ice for all three Amerks goals, giving them both -3 differentials for the night.

Plekanec and Higgins had the misfortune of being (non)supported by Hainsey on 2 of those goals against and Jancevski on 3, not to mention Ellis. The main problem in the losses is usually the defense.

Higgins did get named third star of the game. And the Dogs' PP went 2 of 5. Where's Michaud when you need him?

Exchange on the Bulldog's message board:

...Someone please explain this to me. Ott gives Paetsch a two-handed slash across the leg that would make a lumberjack jealous and Morton doesn't call it. Paetsch goes down while play continues. Paetsch gets up and goes after Ott. No call. Paetsch goes after Ott again and grabs him leading to a skirmish involving all of the players and finally the whistle blows. 2 min. for slashing to Ott while Paetsch gets a double-minor for roughing. What? If Morton saw the slash then why didn't he blow the whistle? If he felt that Paetsch's initial run at Ott was roughing then why didn't he call it then? That whole incident escalated much further than it had to solely because of Morton's apparent indecision over when to call the penalties.
If he had called the slash when it happened, Ott would have had his two minutes with no penalty to Paetsch. Had he called Paetsch's initial run at Ott then it's two minutes apiece. I just don't get it.

Wayne: the original firing of Dean Morton was by the NHL, not AHL. I guess his winning his wrongful dismisal case meant we're the ones ultimately getting punished. In a similar vein, Blaine Angus has been fired by the NHL and I am dying to see how that one works out.
Last night, we were in the game as long as Morton called things fairly, that is, with a clutch and grab style as Cunnysworth employs, as long as the ref can keep them honest, we have a chance. In the third, when he started to let the intererence go, the wheels fell off the wagon. Wednesday Langdon didn't call squat and gave the game to them in the first period. Giving Askey first star was a bit generous. A lot of the shots were not quality ones and he hot dogged a few easy ones to make them look difficult.

Morton's ineptitude actually hurt the Amerks in the Ott scenario. It ended up being a Bulldog powerplay when it could have been an Amerk powerplay or a 4-on-4.
BTW, who was the ref for the Perezhogin slashing incident?

Game report(s) by Top Corner2 at HF:
Went down to see the two 'dogs games.
I was very impressed with the team in general....especially as they are such a young team.
Chris Higgins: By far the best Bulldog on the ice in both games. Hard work at both ends. Quick hard shot, lots of energy and hustle in both ends, breakaway speed and dangerous every time he was on the ice. Had very good chemistry with Plekanec, unfortunately Meitonen didn't complete the trio very well. Higgins has all the tools and will be a very good pro. The best player on the ice in both games, except maybe for Vanek who looked good at times for Rochester.
Plecanec: great offensive instincts. Lots of Hustle and Grit, great passing and speed. Not as good in the corners as Higgins, but is always thinking and patient. Made a Beautiful setup to Higgs on the 1st goal Sat night.
Kostitsyn: Wow! This guy has improved. Last time I saw him was on TV with dogs and at the Rookie tournament live. He is getting the picture!!!! This guy has the tools, say what you will....this guy has talent. Breakaway speed, slick (a la Kovalev) stickhandling, and most impressive (to me) great passing skills and vision. He is not a selfish player...in fact he has to learn to be a little more selfish sometimes. This kid is only missing confidence and getting used to N.A.......Even though he didn't have any points he made things happen. The points will come. BTW he is no wimp.....he is learnng to take the man and fight through checks...I see progress.
Hainsey: I'm officially off the bandwagon......I think he is a lost cause. Trade him if possible. Won't take a hit to make the play....that says it all.
Locke: Didn't see much ice time...especially against Rochester. He is a hard worker and shields the puck well. creative with great offensive positioning. Sometimes tries harder plays than he should. Looks a lot better than he did at the rookie tournament......but I can't really say I saw enough of him.
Ferland: I've always liked this guy. He works hard, hit and has a good shot and some offensive creativity. He played hard all weekend. Got much more icetime versus Rochester. Kills penalties. May end up being a useful pro....but only time will tell.
Milroy: Despite all the good things I had to say about him here recently, I've got to say I was not impressed this weekend. He is patient and works hard and is tough...but has a lot of work to do. He has to find a way to use his shot...because that's his bread and butter. I'm not sold on him.
Archer: Hits, plays big, clears the crease, wins battles along the boards....but this guy is clumbsy...has to learn to keep it really really simple. Has a long way to go.
Ward: Can play better. Is underacheiving.....like Hainsey, except he is trying.
Lambert: Only played Saturday as he was a scratch Friday....responded with a really great game. made things happen with Ferland and Morgan. Hit and used his size. If he can learn to play with intensity he might make it. Plays well with Ferland.
There's a start.
