Was in Brampton a couple of times in the last two weeks and Mrs Dis and I stumbled onto Master Steaks ... nothing fancy ... laid out to give people room to eat ... I had an 8-ounce steak with eggs and coffee for about $12 bucks ... both the eggs and the steak were perfectly cooked ... came with toast and home fries but coffee was extra ... check out the dinner menu ... the portions are impressive ... Cheers.

Not sure if it was you Dis who mentioned the Golden Palace in Ottawa in another thread. If so, I'm assuming it's the one on Carling Avenue. I've been in the Vancouver area for almost two decades now and have yet to find a place that makes Cantonese as good they do. There are lots of places that make Cantonese in Richmond but most of them are mediocre at best. A surprising thing when you consider the ethnic mix.

Great idea, Dis! If you ever find yourself hunrgy in Toronto near the Sherbourne/King area….and you want a generous helping of diner-style food at a fair price--with a throwback to the 70s diner atmosphere (i.e. nothing has changed since then, ha!)--check out the Patrician Grill, 219 King St. One block west of Sherbourne on the south side. Patrician GrillI go there quite often for lunch. My usual is the sliced turkey sandwich…real Thanksgiving turkey…not processed slices. Double coleslaw (oil & vinegar, not creamy)….dill pickle. Does the trick for me. You can go for the grease, too! The owner yells out the orders to the cooks….open kitchen. I guess it reminds me of small town in the big city.

It was me who mentioned it, duster, yeah ... unbelievable egg rolls ... Mrs Dis and I are making it a point to have a meal there when we're in Ottawa next ... I was in Port Coquitlam back in '94 and found some good sushi houses ... I found Sima Sushi here in Kingston ... fresh and very reasonably priced ... the Sima Lunch Set is what I usually have ... 4 pieces samshimi, 4 pieces nigiri sushi and 6 pieces California roll ... the other place we like in town is Saporo Sushi ... it's run by a Korean couple and they only have 18 seats in the place ... smaller portions of sushi but very fresh ... Cheers.

Do they have cooked onions on their burgers ... it would seem to be the place ... fresh turkey sandwiches do the trick ... I like those throwback delis ... we have a good one right downtown, but it's expensive ... Golden Rooster Delicatessen is right on Princess St and it's always busy despite the high-end prices ... the food is great and it doesn't matter what you have ... Cheers.

Guys when you are in Ottawa and want to go for lunch, Art Is In bakery is phenomenal. Rick, we've already been to Heart & Crown and the food is very good there as well. There is also a BBQ place just outside of Ottawa called D&S Southern BBQ... unreal food.

The burger at Art Is In is the best burger I've ever had. Frank, next time Rick is in town, I should drag you guys out to D&S bbq. If you like ribs, chicken, brisket, pulled pork and smoked chicken wings, this is the place for you D&S BBQ

If any of us foreigners are in that area, we need to know where to eat. Good thread.

I was in St. John's last week with a couple of co-workers for a morning meeting with a client. We had lots of time after the meeting before our flight so we went searching for a place for lunch and stumbled upon Oliver's. It's a small "hole in the wall" type of place at 160 Water Street. The three of us were very impressed with the service and food. There was only one gentleman serving tables but he was very attentive and the food was excellent.
Skilly - don't know if you've ever been there, but if not try it out sometime and let me know what you think.

Ate at Heart Attack Grill when I was in Vegas last week. Lots of fun and the food isn't bad either!! What's the cause of the heart attack?
