If I were the Oilers, I'd be talking to Todd McLellan. He knows the West…and he's got some mojo.

Wonder what happens to Kevin Lowe now that Nicholson is top dog...

First order of business in new arena will be enough office space for all the managers.

Just because they succeeded at the national team level doesn't mean it will work in the NHL. The Oilers will never succeed until they get away from this old boys club. Hire the best hockey talent, not just guys that played for Edmonton.

Looks like Chia will be introduced tomorrow as some sort of director of hockey ops. No idea what that means for MacT.

Chia knows how to trade young budding superstars for not very much. Perfect fit for Edmonton.

Zing!
PC at 11am EDT. There's a staff meeting prior to where the club will discuss personnel changes. MacT has been GM since 2013. Howson was brought in as VP of hockey ops. Lowe is the President of hockey ops. There's no way that Chia doesn't take a job without autonomy. I'm guessing that Lowe and Howson are gone, MacT remains as GM, and reports to Chi directly.

They are bringing in a guy with 2 Finals appearances in (in the last 4 years actually) 9 years including a win. Just give him the GM job and get rid of the Oilers deadwood.

Lowe out as Pres of hockey ops. Retains role on Oilers Entertainment business side. He apparently offered to reduce his role last year, but Katz wouldn't accept. According to MacKenzie, only staff member let go is COO Patrick Laforge. No word yet on what, if any, changes there will be to MacT and Howson's roles.

Chia knows how to trade young budding superstars for not very much. Perfect fit for Edmonton. He's not the first. Remember three guys called Roy, Tremblay and Houle? And then Gainey, Ribs and Janne Niinimaa. The latter is not as bad a deal, but it was very similar in that two headaches (Ribs in one case and Seguin in the other) were being moved for whatever was available at the time. When you're under the gun, it's tough to make a good deal. Good lesson in that you simply shoudn't until you get fair value.

That looks like both addition by addition, but also addition by subtraction for the Oil today. Not only to they get Chia in as President of Hockey Ops and GM, but they move out both Lowe and MacT....the two biggest anchors to success over the last decade.
Still miffed that they lucked out on the McD lottery despite being so severely mismanaged for so long, but I will concede this was a smart hockey management move for them today.

Seguin is a douche though. He'll grow up eventually, but most teams don't want to put up with that crap.
