All kinds of early pressure from the Caps....can't finish.
Then Hagelin is robbed by Holtby's glove.
Sure hope the Caps can get it done....

Stepan scores on a rebound.
Rangers complete the comeback.

Crap. You knew after all that early pressure that the Rags would find a way. Caps continue to be a team destined to lose.

Caps looks deadly through most of this overtime, but they got caught in a couple of icings.
3 straight penalties allowed the Rangers to build momentum and tie the game. That didn't help.
Think I'm cheering for Tampa. I just really like how they play.

The Chicago-Anaheim series is going to be something else. Talk about balanced, true contenders. From what I've seen in these playoffs, either one of those teams should beat either the Rangers or the Lightning. But that's why they play the games. I want Tampa to beat the Rangers....then for Bishop to get lit up in the Finals.

I'm 'cheering' for the Rangers. I just can't hope for someone who beat us and I still think Bishop has a monopoly on horseshoes. Right now my best choice to win is Anaheim, but that will jinx them for sure. The Hawks/Ducks series should be really good.

Still feeling pretty sad at how good McDonagh is. And in case we needed reminding the broadcast crews are very happy to bring up that trade.

He's good, but he's not super human. He's somewhat insulated on a team that plays 5 unit defense in front of an all star goalie. Along with him, they have Girardi, Staal, and Klein as shut down guys. Boyle and the acquired Yandle were to provide the offensive push. Take him out of that environment, and put him in say Phoenix. He's still good, but the luster wears off a bit.

I'd take him. I wonder if we can convince Sather to take DD, Joe Finley and Dumont for him. That's about right for Gomez, Michael Busto and Tom Pyatt.

I'd take him. So would I, but I don't lose sleep over the trade. IMO, he's replaceable. He's not dynamic enough at any one aspect that makes him irreplaceable.

Well, it still bugs me. It's much easier to see how bad a deal it was in hindsight. I doubt Gainey makes that deal if he had a better idea of the risks. At the time, McDonagh didn't seem, to me at least, to have progressed that well, though I was judging just from stats as I had no way of seeing him play. I understand the scouts were not happy with the deal, though that info is from hearsay on my part. It could very well be true, but I don't have a definite sense of that. If McDonagh had become just a 5/6 dman, that trade is just noise. I see McDonagh as a better player than you do, though, so therein lies my disappointment. I'd have him very close to PK in talent. Slightly better defensively, and not as good offensively, by a wider margin.
The other, less mentioned downside of that trade was that it started us on our path to smurfdom.

Kerry Fraser saying the hit on Boyle should have been a penalty.
Yet Karlsson's hit on Beaulieu he deemed acceptable.
Okay.

Rangers get bounces in front of the net that we didn't work hard enough for to get. 2-1 on Tampa.

Supposedly, Sekac is dressed today. Interesting after not getting into any of the 9 previous playoff games. Injury to another Ducks player or perhaps they feel his style is suited to play against the Hawks? Has 7 minutes of ice time after 2. Beauchemin with a brutal give away & Richards scores with 40 seconds left in the 2nd. 2-1 Ducks after two. EDIT: Sekac finishes up with just over 8 minutes of ice along with Etem & Rakell in the same ballpark. Looks like maybe 2 shifts in the 3rd.

Ducks win 4-1. They pushed back hard in the third. Kane and Toews were neutralized. Cogliano line scored a couple.

Tampa pounds 12 goals past Lundqvist in the past two games.
6-2 in New York.
6-5 OT win in Tampa.
I think the Habs might've had a problem doing that.
Then again, perhaps we'd have played the Rangers differently.
But man, I like a team that can score.
Bishop didn't look great tonight, but his team was up to the task.
Johnson making a case for himself for the Conn Smythe in terms of Tampa anyway.
A hat trick in Game 2….then at least a goal and an assist tonight.
5'9"….undrafted.
Yzerman takes a chance on him…..boom.
I wouldn't call it being a masterful GM….but it's worked out so far in these playoffs. He was also huge in that comeback win vs. Detroit.
Kucherov is also having a great playoffs. His second OT winner tonight.

With the score 4-4 in the third, somebody clocked Kreider at the Tampa blue line....
Kreider took the number....but got up and ran Kucherov at the Ranger blue line in retaliation...also knocking down his own dman, Girardi.
Tampa goes in and makes it 5-4.
Reminded me of something Prust would've done.
The Rangers tied it late....but that's Kreider.
I wouldn't be surprised if he tries to take Johnson out. Seems to be his MO.

I'm surprised Kucherov is still playing. Kronwall nailed him in game 6 and then Kreider, as above, also ran him pretty hard. Either he's Wolverine II, or he's playing through something. Hard to imagine a guy taking those kinds of hits and not having it affect them.
Last night's game between Anaheim and Chicago was a treat to watch. A real gut job by both teams after playing effectively two games two night before. That Lindholm looks like a player. Not only is he a smart player, he's got speed and size. Yesterday, he fought someone off the puck and his strength really stood out. He might be the best pick in that draft, so far.
When you look back at Anaheim's drafting, especially in the first round and partially in the second, it's been pretty darn good since 2008. In the first round, they've picked Lindholm #6, Rackell #30, Fowler #12, Etem #29, Peter Holland #15, Kyle Palmieri #26, and Jake Gardiner #17. In other rounds, they've picked up Frederik Anderson, #87, John Gibson $39, DSP #42 (I throw him in there as a hopeful choice), Sami Vatanen #106 and Justin Schultz #43. That's a pretty enviable record. I haven't included the last 2 drafts, since it's hard to predict, but their first choices were Shea Theodore, who I really like and anchored our WJC team this past year, and Nick Ritchie, who was also on the WJC team. Their defense is already very good and is going to be complemented by Theodore. In fact, I thought their worst dman yesterday was Beauchemin, who had a poor game with more than his share of turnovers. Fowler, Lindholm, Despres, and Vatanen. None is older than 23. Wow. No wonder Wisniewski can't break the line-up. How fast can you say CAP problems in a few years? They have to keep drafting well, but Anaheim is an excellent example of how a team should be run. Bob Murray has really escaped the the kind of credit he should be given.

And now St. Louis scores...4-1 Rangers.
Johnson goes off in pain. Slash-speared in the gut by Hayes.
I wouldn't be surprised if Hayes gets a game for that.

Tampa looked to take the game over, and the Rangers got a few quick ones.
