Buffalo got screwed over.
Lehner hasn't shown enough to be worth a 1st rounder, much less a first rounder while Buffalo also takes on a cap dump.

Just also read that both Montreal and Ottawa are in talks with Colorado for Ryan O'Reilly ... Habs have been talking to Colorado all morning ... then this from Bob McKenzie ...
Bob McKenzie @tsnbobmckenzie 6m6 minutes ago Expect OTT to try to package the 18th and 21st picks in tonight's draft to move up and pick earlier in the first round. #TSN

with Legwand gone Ottawa has a leg up with ROR . . . though I can't see Melnyk OKing a contract like the guy wants.

I can see them packaging them to move up. But I can really see them keeping the pickas and stockpiling the cupboard. They will be scary in a couple of years. The fact that Tim Murray took Legwand is crazy...

Great trade for OTT. They dump a goalie they don't need plus a bit player in Legwand and get a 1st? Buffalo is trying to accumulate enough pieces to ice a competitive team with the addition of Eichel. Lehner is cheap at $2.2 million for 2 years while Legwand is a UFA next year. Looks like a case where OTT had what the Sabres were looking for and the Sabres would rather get some assets now as opposed to down the line.

These two deals will also help ensure they're above the cap floor.

Our division is no pushover.
Tampa and the Sens will still give us trouble, especially if our Top 6 remains the same.
Will Florida continue to improve?
Hopefully the Wings and Bruins sag into a period of mediocrity.
Sabres and Leafs should still be outside looking in.

I'm only concerned with Ottawa if Hammond stands on his head again. Outside of Karlsson and Methot their d is thin imo. They scored goals this year, but we'll see if Stone and co can keep up the pace. Meanwhile, Ryan eats a huge chunk of their cap for a long long time.

I still can't believe Lehner is worth a first, let alone a player in twilight with a contract.
"make the deal or I'll beat you up like I used to when your family came to visit".

Guess this means Sather is going to get a first for Talbot or Vancouver and Lack.
I am glad Edmonton has said no to trading that 16th pick for a "back up" goalie.

I think their scoring is deeper than ours and they've hit nicely on some later draft picks like Stone and Hoffman. Defense is good enough behind Karlsson and if Bobby Ryan gets his scoring touch back then the Sens are a serious threat.

A first rounder and you get to dump salary?? Man oh man. I thought Gainey had retired - didn't know he was Tim Murray in disguise. SInce when has Lehner done anything to merit such a return.
