I think the Bruins are just trying to get the assets to move up to #3. I'm guessing they would then take the defenseman Hanifan, who might be just as good as Hamilton. If Hanifan can step in as a rookie and play reasonably well (like Ekblad) then they just saved themselves some cap space without a huge drop in on-ice caliber. Big if mind you, but that could be the logic. So Hamilton and your own first rounder for two second rounders and a defenseman you hope will turn out as well as Hamilton. Hamilton's a solid #2 IMO, with potential to be a #1. Hanifan or Provorov may end up there, but it's a lot to go through to save some CAP space. Not to mention the risk that the pick doesn't turn out the way you hope. Is the Bruins front office smart enough to be trying that kind of deal? Good question. Any confirmation of the B's pick going the other way? Don't see it on TSN.

They'd have traded Hamilton to get the three draft picks Trade the first rounders (theirs And the one from Calgary) to move up to #3 Select Hanifin In essence in turns into Hamilton and their first rounder for Hanifin and two second rounders

Sounds like Milan Lucic has been traded to LA for the 13th pick
So now Boston has the 13, 14, and 15th picks ....

Looks like they're trying to corner the market on first round picks based on Skilly's post above.

Reminder to self: take notes.

Lucic didn't have a good year, and it should be good for him to get out of Boston (caveat emptor - given the issues with Stoll and Voynov, he may not be going to a safer environment). He's a decent power winger, though and will fit perfectly into the LA system where you hit everything in sight. Hopefully, the game speeds up and bypasses that style of play.

Dougie Hamilton is one of the two first-rounders to come over in the Phil Kessel deal ... the other one, Tyler Seguin, is gone too ...
Cheers.

Dreger saying that Flames wanted 8 yrs, and Dougie wanted 5. Split the difference. The cap hit is good for Calgary.

Decent deal for Calgary for a good young defenseman. They have lots of room now to negotiate with their captain, who supposedly opened up with demands for Subban-like money.
As for the character attacks...is it these two young players or the environment they both left...or a bit of both?
Purely rhetorical.

Bruins fans on HF were lamenting this the other day. Calling it B$ basically. Bruins spin doctoring.

Bizarre. For less than what they're paying for McQuaid (2.75M) + Savard's (4M) they could have signed Hamilton. Would they not have looked into moving those pieces before shopping their future top defenseman? Surely Arizona would have been interested in Savard's contract with the 4M hit but only $570,000 payable each year.

They could have offered Dougie the moon, he wasn't likely to sign. Word is when the Bruins offered him $5.5 million a year, he countered with $7.5 million knowing they couldn't. He wanted out.
