Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson says he's looking forward to a more positive relationship with the federal government after last night's Liberal success in the city, adding it was "always a struggle" to deal with the Tories.translation: Harper didn't do what we wanted, maybe Trudeau will. I think we'll hear that a lot in the days to come. Don't worry, Justin will milk gold from his unicorn cows...which has an uncanny resemblance to the lower and middle class. You will also hear a lot about how the sky is falling. A nice big fat tax will fix that. And poor plight of the aboriginal....which truckloads turning into trainloads will fix. And the every group with a cause.....and two hands holding a bucket to be filled. Yup, now that the evil Harper and FYO (fund your own) is gone, good times ahead.

You mean like the Conservative Economic Action Plan that has built two highways and countless bridges (I'd go so far as to say upwards of 10-12) here in Newfoundland. You wouldn't vote for anyone that promoted that kind of thing? I somehow don't believe you you mean infrastructure spending was done by the Conservatives? you'd never know it here . . . all they did was eat babies and stifle free speech. And that's why they are out ... no one said that the Conservatives didn't spend money throughout the country. And you know something, just as the Conservatives didn't eat babies, the Liberals won't turn the country into a third world bankrupt country. I really do get sick of the rhetoric. For someone to look at the record of the past ten years and to deem it as perfectly acceptable, means they simply piss see blue and only blue. And before anyone brings up the age ol argument " but, but, but, ...boo hoo ...they did it too. Yep, they did. And (I) we turfed them out too and didn't blindly defend their actions. As a wise man once said "One should not blindly follow the masses, because sometimes the "m" is silent" ... and that's how I felt about the Federal Conservatives and their approach on democracy in this country, hiring criminals, defending criminal activity, proroguing parliament, stifling the media, silencing scientists, etc etc etc ... it got way too much for me. HA joked about voting Communist. We actually had a Communist Party of Canada candidate in St. John's East. He almost got my vote. I was that sick of the way democracy has become a joke in this country. And surprisingly, the rest of the country, even parts of Conservative blue strongholds did too .. it's true , it's True-deau I guess he was ready, ..., I wonder how everyone likes his hair now??

Harper had to endure endless garbage about secret agendas, Hitler, Stalin and Cranky comparisons and any number of scatology but now, all of a sudden Justin should be immune to that? Sorry. Welcome to the world of fair play. IF and WHEN Justin actually governs and guides Canada to the same economic course (while the rest of the world burned) instead of combs his hair back and tells us how "worried " he is about the middle class while polishing his million dollar Benz from daddy's inheritance, then he will earn respect.

For someone to look at the record of the past ten years and to deem it as perfectly acceptable..... Yup. It was perfectly acceptable and the entire world saw the same thing. Let's see....in the last five years I traveled across the pond to several European countries and in every single one of them, if the conversation turned to politics or economics, the immediate reaction was.....jealousy, they were all, to a man/woman, jealous of Canada. They considered it as the best country in the world. And I had no problem beaming with pride. Not once did I soil my inspiring Harper underwear. Harper didn't build Canada, not even with his secret agenda, but he certainly guided it through stability. He may not have "served" the needs of some interests, which mostly boiled down to "gimme more money", but he certainly served Canada as a whole. And the rest of the world saw that. The Canadian economy is more on a razors edge then most people think. We have massively over extended private borrowing that is now in the 170% range of disposable income and either a interest rate rise or a multi month recession can spin this country into an economic spiral. It has to be balanced properly and cautiously. Or else. On top of that, our oil industry golden goose is not laying eggs. As much as I don't like Justin because he actually has done nothing other then skate on daddy's name, golden spoon writ large, I certainly hope he grows into the job. FAST. My, your and every-bodies economic welfare on this board depend on it.

The only people I've ever heard use the "baby eating" meme are you and franko ...I've never used it, nor read it in any article. Maybe it was, but when someone does that kind of debate technique, I realize who I'm debating with and walk away. Debate policies, facts, actions.
i had a recent debate with someone who referred to Harper (in writing mind you) as H%#^er. I told him this was poor taste cause of the obvious connotations and the man is the PM.
People are vilifying the current PM before he has even done anything.
Anyhow, I'm done. I promised myself I'd never debate politics on here again (and I obviously broke that promise) because for the most part it is never a debate.

I was just passing on what I've heard and been told. no journalist would publish the Hitler thing -- and the ones (yes ones)who said such a thing were taken to task -- with lost respect. I appreciate the talk, though. it's 3 days past -- time for people to let go of their hatred for Harper and to let Trudeau settle in. there'll be enough time to vilify or honour in the days ahead . . . I'm sure his lack of perfection will be quickly pointed out by some and his good work will be quickly pointed out by others (and his lack of perfection will be ignored by the others and his good work will be ignored by the some). exactly

What choices he makes now, or more correctly, what choices his handlers make and he nods too is what matters now. Good luck with that. A number of things I noticed about the campaign/election ... most of the people I talked to were really tired of Stephen Harper's American approach to the election ... make you afraid of it and tell who's to blame for it ... I really think this approach never had a chance from the beginning ... to his credit, Justin Trudeau never once mentioned his father in the campaign and I think that worked for him big time ... and, like Harper's fear-based approach, I think using Trudeau the Elder as a campaign rallying cry would have worked against his son, huge ... Harper targeted specific groups with his campaign promises ... Trudeau milked the "middle class" angle for all he could ... I thought Trudeau's campaign was brilliantly planned ... Trudeau dominated the prime time airways more and more as the election neared ... that's all I was seeing, at times ... like you said, though, they man will have to perform ... he can't shirk off our international military responsibilities ... there will be repercussions for that ... he's taking in 25,000 migrants/refugees and they're going to have to be screened ... he need only look at two European countries are going through, to figure out what he may have waiting for him ... dropping the F-35 is a very good move ... it's an expensive piece of junk ... this might be just a sign of what is to come for the military ... I know of a few soldiers who are already shaking their heads at the cuts that are coming ... Cheers.

Listening to one of our elected officials. Green green green. And nothing the previous government did was good and "we" are going to do everything right/better. About what is expected, but I detest the partisanship always that the previous administration did absolutely nothing right, municipal, provincial, and federally. Of course, I'm just as guilty, especially when it comes to our current provincial government. Sometimes I think that MT works for the Ontario Liberal Party . . . He never does anything right either. oops he is, see, I can't complain about everything Habs coaching and can't complain about anything Trudeau because he hasn't done anything yet.

I fear green green green will be the focus and that scares me. At no point green creates long term sustsinable jobs despite what the the green industry lies about. On that, been there, done that with MY money. I was ready to put 7 and 8 figures behind it in manufacturing and i couldn't care less if the issue is real or not. Right now, I am putting 8 figures behind a new product line and the last thing I need is some blather on propping up the sky with money and focus. While the Canadian market is secondary in the big scheme of things, I don't need a recession to screw up my dealer network and roll out. Unlike Obama, even if I hate Trudeau, which I don't, whatever he does will be up close and personal for all of us. I WANT him to succeed as much as possible. Pot, hair and unicorns don't matter....as they say...it's about the economy stupid!

Moved to Edmonton and got on in Imperial Oil's mail room. Wikipedia then says he moved to their computer area (where he no doubt honed his social skills) then went to Univerdity of Calgary, graduated, gtjem got his Madters in Economics, then into politics. Not exactly a litany of experiences and successes. Basically a student and a politician. I'd say Trudeau already has far more life experience and qualities than Harper did. I want him to surround himself with good people. Justin's dad for example, had Ed Clarke (retired TD Bank CEO) on his office staff. Hire some good people, give them goals and let them do their thing. I just hope he's smart enough to do that.

I just hope he's smart enough to do that. Try praying instead..... Here's some fun facts. Gerald Butts: Liberal political puppet master writ large. He was adviser to McGuinty and now Trudeau. In fact, he went to university with Trudeau and friends for a few decades. He is Trudeaus Numero Uno advisor. Period. Wiki.... Gerald Michael Butts (born 1971) is the Principal Advisor to Justin Trudeau. Before joining the Trudeau campaign, he was President and CEO of the global conservation organization, WWF-Canada (World Wildlife Fund Canada). He is an environment activist just one short step from drooling, in fact the "brains" behind the Liberals "green shift". A "shift" that is costing Ontario people an extra 10 BILLION A YEAR. That is 10 BILLION. Money that could of gone to health care and schools. Nope. Not important. We are now holding up the sky. Shall I go on on about how Liberals apparatchiks are raking $$$ from our 10 billion a year saving the sky? I have first hand knowledge about that. In fact, I wrote up on it in here. His economic philosophy is spend, spend, spend and spend some more. He simply does not care whatever debt is incurred. (which makes me wonder if he is a closet Greek politician). He simply does not see debt as anything other then free money. Want to cry? Have you seen Ontario credit ratings? Step by step....downwards. That my friend is who is pulling Trudeau's strings. Feeling better?

I think I was the only one in the room that didn't cheer that one; of course, I used to live in a community that didn't have door-to-door postal service so I know that walking half a block (or stopping the car and getting out of it on the way home) isn't that bad. Harper should have announced it as a form of exercise; it would have been hailed as a health proposal.

Two pretty clear ones that they've promoted that I think are good ideas are legalizing pot and spending on infrastructure. The latter is the most cost effective way to boost the economy (especially with the low bond rates today) and taxes on the former will probably pay for the latter. I don't think there will be enough money generated. infrastructure? important. bridges and roads and sewers? important ( I don't mind helping pay for someone else's bridge . . . or ferry. I do, however, wonder about the definition of infrastructure -- one of our new Ottawa MPs wants the feds to build a new downtown library. sorry . . . municipal. but maybe it's munici pal . . . along with the mayor thinking he'll get along better with the new PM (liberals help each other out).

No, the tax revenue won't be enough. I too, have no objections to removing mail delivery, probably because I haven't experienced it since I left home at 18. Always had to go pick up the mail at some spot or another. It never hurt me. I think that concern will disappear within a month after the change takes place. It's just not that big a deal. People who can't get around always seem to find a friend or neighbour who'll do it for them.
Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with getting more green into our lives anyway. Because my wife is a gardener, we have a compost bin, and there's a recycling program in town. We could go at least 3 weeks before one garbage bag is filled, and probably longer if we gave it more thought. You get used to it and it seems quite normal.
PS. HA, I'm feeling just fine about JT as PM. He's no Harper.

"Green" is 10 billion a year getting stripped off the masses to fund very, very, very rich companies and Liberal friends. That exact same 10 billion a year could of solved every school and hospital funding issue. The problem with well off people touting "green" is that they can afford to waste a grand or three to pay for "green" feelgood. The other 80% can't....and have to do with less and less to cover the "green" heaped on them. Let me know if you think a Average Joe family of six can afford electricity bill that is three times what it was 10 years ago. ALL because of "green wa$hing" solar panels and three pointed crosses. Let me know if you think that spending 10 billion on making some people feel better about "saving the planet" is more important then hospitals and schools. JT is certainly no Harper. In fact, he would be a nobody other then having daddy's name and who may or may not be a disaster.

I love the "speak freely" cross heaped on Harper. He should of let every conservative MP spout to his heart content. We really need a 24/7 circus on abortion and religion to pre-occupy the media and sell air time. Ask yourself, do you really think that ANY liberal MP can talk about how expensive greenwashing is? Or how about letting public employees use their position in government as a platform to spout their personal views? Come work for me and spout how "manufacturing is killing the planet" and see how long you last. If I hire you to do a job, you don't get to use my business as a platform for your views related to my business. If a bank hires you, you are not going to use your position as a branch manager to spout the evils of money. Sorry. Ask yourself, do you really think that government employees should spout the agenda of the political party? Because you will certainly hear about the imminently falling sky from now on from those who are also collecting big fat government cheques. As for selling souls, I ain't get one......
