Whether you like Clarke or not, you have to admire his style. He sees a need with injuries to Roenick & Primeau and goes out and gets a guy that can be productive.
And Vandemeer was the only regular to go the other way.

the more interesting thing was something i heard mitch melnick say before the game on his show.. the blackhawks payroll, when you factor in injuries and recent trades stands at 5 million/ year.. for the ENTIRE team..

That can't be right ....... is it?
I mean Berard (2.1 Million) + Arnason (0.9 Million) + Calder (0.9 Million) = almost 4 million between 3 players.

Rent a player or not....bondra and zhamnov have moved for decent prospects and picks.
I'm not sure if BG has been involved in any of these talks, but it sure would be nice to get in on this action.

The Hawks have only 5 million guaranteed for next year. Now that's what I call a rebuild.

While the Habs have not been taking on new contracts (although they continue to pay Czerkawski, who must be bugging Gainey by helping the Islanders overtake the Habs), they have not been deconstructing like the Blackhawks or Capitals.

Now that's what I call a rebuild. Or a wreck. That's a mighty deep trench the Hawks have to climb.

Or a wreck. That's a mighty deep trench the Hawks have to climb. They could win the lottery and land Ovechkin, or else get the #2 pick. That might give them a bit of a boost out of the trench,

True enough, but it helps to have at least a little support. The Hawks have really stripped the cupboard and haven't got much in the way of prospects in their pipeline. Wirtz may make money, but the Chicago fans are paupers.
