It's an interesting move. Scrap for scrap in a lot of ways. With the Pens retaining a third of Scuderi's contract it means the Hawks save $1 million a year. Scuderi can't skate anymore. It's likely he's a #7 for the Hawks and they call up a kid with the created cap space. Daley has his own issues, and apparently asked for a trade out of Chicago after only being there a few months. He is mobile though, and could help the Pens move the puck out of their end better.

I think the Pens marginally get the better of the deal. They need a puck moving defenseman more than the Hawks need a guy like Scuderi. Actually, the Hawks are getting a guy like an old Scuderi, so he's not the same guy who teamed with Gill to help them win a Cup in Pittsburgh. The League is faster and Scuderi isn't. The only part that annoys me is that the Hawks cleared more CAP space. I'd prefer the pressure was on them further. They called up Bickell, though, so the additional $950M that gets added to the CAP offsets what they gained on Daley. Now if Bickell would just keep up his less than competent performance.
