Per Custance, via Lebrun, Jiri's been traded to the Hawks for Garbutt.

Two very different players.
Sekac wasn't getting much time in Anaheim I think. Should be interesting to see where he fits with such a good team.

I doesn't appear that Anaheim fans are going to miss him, but they're not liking the return. In the case of Garbutt, Chicago no longer has any of the pieces they got for Sharp.

Sekac....talk about failing UPwards.... Boudreau is now playing a solid trap game...and the Ducks are winning again. Sekac doesn't strike me as a trap/jam player, whereas Garbutt does. I detest Garbutt....but the Hawks just might miss his jam in the playoffs.

Plus he was suspended last season for a slew foot against the Jets.

So if I remember it right it's now Sharp for Scuderi and Sekac.

It will be interesting to see where Chicago plays him .... it was always my contention that we didn't give him a chance to play on the first or second lines for long enough. Anaheim barely used him at all ... Lets see what ACT III brings

I didn't think that he shied away from contact in the limited time I saw him but both trades are for players deemed grittier/more physical.

Agreed, and while he and DSP might have had similar value it would appear in this case that he was traded for someone with 'less upside'. Anaheim fans on hf are largely mixed about him. Everything from misused to useless. Some claiming that it didn't make sense for a team struggling to score to trade a guy who had a theoretically better chance of helping with that than the guy they got in return.

Maybe has something to to with that article ( think it was posted here) stating that Boudreau is now going to a heavy trap system.

Well you'd think a guy from Europe would be able to play that way, but yes Boudreau has gone full trap. Players have bought in, and they're winning some games. Still can't score, which is really baffling when you consider they've got Getzlaf and Perry.

Sekac certainly has the tools....but perhaps not the edge to make them really valuable.

Gotta say, if you can't find, or have, the mojo to do everything you can to stay on a true contender…. Unless he was a victim of seniority, or the numbers game, MT had him pegged.

So that deal was a wash. Amazing how a guy (Sekac) can look good and simply not produce. Tell me again, why is DSP still on the roster?

Friedman & McKenzie tweeting that Sekac has been picked up on waivers by Coyotes. 4 teams in the last 2 seasons now.
BTW no one claims Jared Cowan.

On Cowen, Sportsnet is reporting that the Leafs will try and move his contract by the deadline. Ummm, nobody took him for nothing. I guess being waived and his injury status does give him some more value than on waivers where teams basically have full and healthy rosters already.

I guess that getting DSP for Sekac wasn't a bad return after all.
