It was the second time I saw Mike Condon do well in a shootout ... he played extremely well throughout the game tonight ... anyone else notice how often the players were beaking off at the refs tonight ... man, they were giving each other the business ... nice goal from the captain to keep the shootout going ... nice goal by Eller to end the game ...
Cheers.

Condon did look good in the shootout. Kind of sad that he only faced 19 shots through the entire game and we still had to go to a shootout.

I'm really excited. We beat one of the worst teams in the league after squandering a two goal lead and almost losing it. Stay the course. Keep doing the same thing and expect different results. Still it's a win over the leafs and puts another single point between us in the standings.

An expected-and needed--win, but much too close. The Habs were outplayed in the 2nd and 3rd pweriods. This evening's results moved the Habs a wee bit closer to the playoffs, but will be there after game 82?

Watched the first and the OT and shootout. Noticed the Habs chirping about a perceived too many men non call on that near break away the Leafs had. Kadri had a blatant holding the stick on Subban earlier in the extra period that went uncalled too.

We almost lost to a bunch of no names. It seems the impact of MB's presser lasted a whole period. Great. PP was another 0 for whatever, again. And it was awful. The last PP at the end of the game which could have given us a win in regulation was painful. Can we blame that on Price's injury? I see Max took responsibility for the first leafs' goal. I'm getting tired of everyone in this organization taking the blame. Yet somehow no one is held accountable or penalized. But it's always nice to beat the leafs. Even this lowly edition of the worst franchise in professional sport going on 50 years now. They are so bad the HNC crew was having a hard time showing any love, except for Morgan Reilly.

Gotta love Dave Stubbs.
David Desharnais told Marc Dumont that the team is going to focus on East-West play, instead of North-South play, to be more creative.
Stubbs tweets "which means when the rink lies between compass points there might be trouble"

Going to miss his unwavering, extensive coverage of the Habs now that he is moving on to a broder scoped job with NHL.com. Wonder who will fill the void with the Gazoo. He seems to be so respected by the players and is quite the historian...and never seems to get caught up in the emotion of a Habs slump. And the bow ties!!

Given how MT managed to take advantage of a strong game for Barberio-Beaulieu (including playing Barberio in OT), and how he took advantage of Eller's strong game to put him out there for the shootout - which led to the winning goal, I think solid coaching was a major part of this win.
I'm still annoyed at Subban for slacking on the backcheck, and Galchenyul for his lackasaidal all-around play. Sometimes I worry Semin rubbed off on him.

PTH, I'll give you Barberio-Beaulieu. But then if you are going to compliment him on using them wisely, shouldn't we then also comment on using Subban for almost 32 minutes when it was obvious he was tired and his over usage of him on the PP?
I can not give him any props for Eller. He used him as the 5th shooter. He even put Byron and Flynn out before him. If he truly recognized a good game by Eller he would have been one of the first three shooters. The shooters after #3 are not predetermined, so why not use him at 4? Why wasn't he in too 3?,
It just seems sometimes that "decisions" fall into his lap. "I've overused Subban, now I have to use ......"

They fall into his lap or they are so obvious everyone recognizes their wisdom well before MT does i.e. overplaying Markov and now PK, playing Markov in OT. These were all issues long ago identified by fans yet somehow missed by MT until disaster struck. And yes we'll be feeling the overplaying of Markov for the rest of the season as he tries to recover.

One would guess that he wasn't at his best on Saturday either. He had the worst possession stats of the defense, but I can't recall if that was Saturday or the game before. That's a real anomaly as he usually has the best stats.
