Stamkos is a pipe dream. No way we can afford having 3 9 million dollar players in 3 years. (Price subban Stamkos).
I would like to see us trade pleky and emelin to Edmonton in a package for one of their centers. RNH or draisitl.
I think Okposo has to be our ufa target or find a winger via trade.
And galchenyuk must be at Centre from now on.

I don't think that there has been a recent trade deadline period where Larry's name has not been out there. For a team that has really improved its Corsi and possession numbers from abysmal numbers last year, Eller is one of our best possession forwards. He is also our Rodney Dangerfield. Sure he seems to have underachieved on the consistent offensive front, but he brings a lot of other good attributes. He can be on my third line!!

Price might get $9 million, but you can still manage it. It's all about keeping the bottom 11 guys on the roster at $1 million or less. Price has 2 years left after this year. Overpriced contracts to guys like Emelin and Eller would be expired (if Montreal keeps them). Plekanec's extension is done, if kept. Markov is gone, if kept.
Where you'd feel the pinch, potentially, is with Pacioretty. His contract expires the following year. He'll no longer be a bargain.
pacioretty Stamkos gallagher 4500000 11000000 3750000 hartnell replacement Galchenyuk lottery 5000000 4000000 950000 De La Rose McCarron Andrighetto 1000000 1500000 1500000 Carr player player 900000 1200000 840000 Coburn Subban 5000000 9000000 Beaulieu Petry 3000000 5500000 player Pateryn 1000000 800000 Barberio 700000 Price 9000000 backup 575000
Going into the 2018-19 season, that roster would cost $70,715,000. Galchenyuk is signed to an extension similar to Gallagher's (hopefully). The draft lottery player from this spring is going into the last year of his ELC. We don't know what the cap will be, so determining whether that lottery player's bonuses exceed the cap is hard to account for. The left wing spot on the second line would have to be addressed maybe it's someone from within for less than the outgoing player. Maybe it's a ufa signing. Petry will have 3 years left on his deal. Maybe Juulsen is ready to assume a role and Petry can be moved to address the forward position. That would free up sizable space.
Price, Subban, and Stamkos at $9 million or more is doable.

Started following Engel on twitter. Lots of chatter tonight about Eller being available. He also says that Habs are interested in Backlund of Calgary.

I thought Backlund got traded to Vancouver for Shattenkirk? That was Granlund for Shinkaruk.

That doesn't make much sense to me. It would seem like they're grooming DLR to be the next Eller (3rd line checking center). McCarron could also challenge for that spot as early as next season - so no need to replace Eller with a center. If they trade him it should be to fill a current, or anticipated need.
