Had a chance to see him here in town a few years back but it fell through ... I had heard a lot about him but had never seen him live ... born on April 6th, 1937 ... a party looking for a place to happen ...

He was a country music legend for decades...and I hope he was able to truly enjoy that status.
Just one of those signature voices.
Also one of those who made the seamless move from the reserved suit-and-tie country star to the dishevelled rebel/cowboy image (which was likely closer to his real self)....a la Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings.
