Reported as a hoax earlier this week, as he had been hospitalized for flu-like symptoms....but apparently, it's been confirmed by his publicist. Prince

Man, I saw this only a few minutes ago ... "Prince" was a brilliant talent and a very underrated guitarist ... we also lost Joanie Laurer, AKA Chyna as well ... son of a gun ... RIP
Cheers.

Chyna, 46, was presumably an OD....she'd been battling substance addiction.
===========================================================
Prince was also a top-notch shredder....multi-instrumentalist.

Yah, he wrote that and Manic Monday for the Bangles, among others.
Been a brutal few months.

Thanks. Turns out Prince didn't always write them for others…O'Connor and Khan included. (See clip below, starting at the 7:20 mark. Nice interview by George Lopez.) The Compulsory Licence Law allows other artists to take your music "at will" through the record companies, without the writer's permission. Sure, the writer gets some money….but it's basically a clause that allows the labels to double, triple, quadruple down on a hit. I suppose most cover tunes have occurred that way. No doubt why he was determined to fight for and win (buy back) ownership of his entire catalogue. The music business is chock full of opportunists--hoodwinking and exploiting young/naive talent in various ways. Agents, managers, label execs. Did you hear/read Steve Miller's profanity-enhanced diatribe after his induction in the RRHoF?
