I have to echo one of the comments in the link. I knew he wasn't well but still taken aback by the news.

I remember going to a Leafs/Whalers game at the Gardens years ago. Howe scored a goal & as I remember it, he roofed it from the slot. Not especially remarkable except for the fact that he was 52 at the time! Amazing athlete.

I met him in the mid 90s, when he was the Grand Marshall if the Cambridge Santa Claus Parade. He had a Beliveau-aura about him.
The reason he was Grand Marshall.....he played one game of Junior hockey for the Galt Jr. A Red Wings, back in the mid 40s. (Cambridge used to be Galt, Preston, and Hespeler.) That team lasted 3 seasons. For some reason, he was deemed ineligible…and played just the one game.
Terry Sawchuk also played for the Galt team.

Met Mr Howe a few years back and he talked to me as if we were in the dressing room ... still, he was a real gentleman ... RIP Mr Hockey ...
