It can lead to your downfall or at times simply present an opportunity to show your best qualities. For Kyle Chipchura, a potentially career-threatening injury became a chance to remind Bob Gainey and the Canadiens why they made him their top draft pick last summer. Much to the delight of the Montreal organization, everything went according to plan when Chipchura flew out of the blocks to start the 2004-05 campaign. Then, in a morning practice, disaster struck. During a routine scrimmage, Chipchura got tangled up with an unsuspecting teammate whose skate accidentally dug into the back of his leg just below the calf - one of the few relatively unprotected areas on a player’s padded hockey anatomy.
