Figured a thread was worthwhile. If you hear anything over the course of tonight and tomorrow, post it.

Oilers and Blues are talking Shattenkirk. Oilers have offered RNH. Blues want Eberle or Hall. This from an NHL.com Blues beat reported and shared by McKenzie.

Bettman, once again, welcomed by a prolonged chorus of boos... I don't give him credit for much, but he sure can shake it off. He doesn't get flustered. Like a heel in wrestling, he seems to feed off it lol.

Sharp's name is in play from Dallas. They desperately need NHL defenders.

They need a goalie too.

Yep. They've lost Goligoski, and Russell is likely gone. If they can find a way to improve play in their own end, they'll make life easier for the goalies they have.

Wings traded 16th pick and Datsyuk's full cap hit for Coyotes 20th OA pick, Vitale, and a second. Deal puts Detroit fully in play to run at Stamkos.

I thought the kid in Phoenix might know what he's doing but Detroit fleeced him. Take the Datsyukncontract out and that's a reasonable deal. Why give Holland a freebie on his cap? I think that was really dumb. Especially if Chychrun doesn't develop as hoped.

I think that was really dumb. Especially if Chychrun doesn't develop as hoped. As NBC coverage discussed, you have to think about it from a cap floor perspective. The Coyotes have to reach the cap floor of $54 million. That's a concern for them. Having Datsyuk's contract means they only have to spend $46.5 million in actual money to reach the floor. For a smaller budget team, that's huge.

The Wild have bought out the last year of Vanek's contract. He was set to make $6.5 million. Buyout will be $4.355 million over next two seasons.

Detroit way very well be in the driver seat for Stamkos. Frustrating. It is. My hope is that come the next CBA talks, if not sooner, the league removes the loophole of selling dead contracts and players on IR who will never play again. Until then ...

Should not have given up a 2nd rounder for example.

I look at it like there are favours being done for both teams. The Coyotes get the cap space without having to spend the money. They get help ensuring they're above the cap floor. That favour requires return imo, as staying above the floor (while not as common) is every bit as important as staying below the ceiling.

Ship has sailed for me. He got his wish to go home, and played poorly enough to get bought out. He couldn't look more disinterested out there.

Vanek agent will receive some calls. Bergevin will not one calling. Vanek said he did not feel comfortable playing for Therrien. Therrien does not like him.
