Near gagged when I read this ... might get mine graded to see its value ... Wayne Gretzky rookie card smashing record at ongoing auction BY ALLAN MUIR, Posted: Fri Jul. 15, 2016Nearly two decades after his retirement, the Great One is still obliterating records. The best-known example of Wayne Gretzky's 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee rookie card is up for auction and the early action has been historic. Bidding for the card, which is being offered by Goldin Auctions, already has reached $200,000, more than double the previous record for a modern hockey card. Estimates suggest the bidding could reach $400,000 by the time the card is finally sold. That's a staggering leap from the then-record $94,163 that the card last traded for back in May, 2011. "The card is the flag bearer for the hockey market," said Ken Goldin, president of Goldin Auctions. "It is the most valuable and most sought after hockey card, by far." The rest of the story ...
Cheers.

Nothing like the sound of sports cards flapping against spokes. Rivaled only by the sobs 30 years later.

Still got mine, locked away in safety deposit box. I'm guessing this particular one is a flawless cut and condition. I'd never sell mine for 1k anyways. It's a childhood treasure.

I put three in the spokes of my bike .... Shoot me now, please That's the fate to many of my early Bruins cards ... Phil Esposito, Bobby Orr ... didn't matter ... mind you, I never had a Bobby Orr rookie card ... these aren't from my personal collection but I do have them in a trunk ... got the Ken Dryden rookie back in the early 90's when the guy was packing up from a card show ... paid $2 bucks for it and $15 for the Lafleur RC a few years later (the lady really didn't know her cards so ...) the Dryden is far from mint but it's a great keepsake ... I have quite a few more RCs ... too many to name them all ...
