Another Montreal legend calls it quits to return to Cornell and complete his degree.

I always liked Ryan O'Byrne ... that whole purse-snatching incident was a farce that, I thought, was the beginning of the end for Ryan's career ... the Habs got a few good years out of him ... he could take care of himself physically ... good luck to him ...
Cheers.

I always hoped the best for Ryan, as I tend to cheer a little louder for the prospects that are drafted from outside the CHL or any of the major Euro leagues.
The 2003 was a very interesting draft year. Ryan ended up with 308 NHL games, which was the fourth highest for Habs draft picks made in that draft (TT's first). A lot has been made about the guys that got away that draft, especially in the first round and with our second round bust Corey Urquhart (we could have had Patrice Bergeron, David Backes or even Shea Weber for that matter with that pick...but you know what they say about hindsight). Overall, that started a three year streak for TT in which the team drafted at least four guys who ended up playing at least 300 games in the NHL. That helps build free team depth.
I am with Dis on the purse snatching fiasco. He was thrown under the bus for having a teammate's back.

I went to a Calder Cup Finals game in Hamilton in 2007 - the year the Bulldogs won it.
Saw him play along with Price & Lapierre. I may be mistaken but I think they were the only ones from that team to make the Habs.

If it's the same team, Kyle Chipchura would be another ... the photo I have has Mikhail Grabovski in it, too (thanks Gogi) ... not sure it that would be the team ... Cheers.

Can you imagine if we draft Parise and Bergevin instead of Kostitsyn and CU

Can you imagine if we draft Parise and Bergevin instead of Kostitsyn and CU Andre Savard had a lot of sway on that draft. He really wanted Urquhart and said afterwards that he really missed that one. As for AK, I remember that TT did mention that he had other guys ranked highly at the ten spot, but again Savard went with the flashier offensive guy. On the counter side, Halak in the ninth round was pure larceny. I still remember Pierre McGuire ranting as Parise dropped wondering what teams were thinking. In this case, he was actually right. There were question marks about Getzlaf's foot speed, but the Habs were screaming for the next big centre back then too. Weber missed a ton of the season due to injury, but he was highly regarded and was from that darn defense factory in Kelowna. ANA defined its offense that draft for many years thanks to Getzlaf and Perry in the first. PHI getting Carter and Richards was pretty good for a while too. Lots of future team captains drafted that year.

My recollection was that Gainey, in his first draft as GM, held authority over the first round pick. Andrei was a 'home run' swing. He was never a bad player, but there were players taken later that certainly have been better.
Lots of people passed on Bergeron. Things get muddy after the first. Hindsight is 20/20. It's not like Urquhart was an "off the map" pick.

Timmins seem to be pretty good from second round onward. But he has missed on a lot of first rounders. Tinordi, Leblanc, Kostitsyn, Fisher, Chipchura. Should consider somebody else taking first round pick?

Should consider somebody else taking first round pick? Price, Galchenyuk were both deemed a little risky, in handsight they look like steals. McDonagh is great as is Pacioretty both late to mid round firsts. McCarron, Scherbak, Juulsen and Sergachev, look like one possible home run and a couple doubles and maybe a single with Nikita. I'm sure you were tongue in cheek, as it would be extremely insulting to Timmins to say to him, you're great but the most important pick, well we don't trust you with it.

Galchenyuk anybody would have got that. Timmins had one good draft in 2007. Since then he is under average
