SportsnetFor Zach Pochiro (who?) and a conditional third round pick (who knows?) in 2017. If that's all he's worth, I'm kinda glad Berg's Oiler deal fell through (IF it was indeed on the table...and unless it did indeed include Nurse). Even then....

The Blues needed to lose a contract so that's why Pochiro was included. It's Yakupov for a 3rd moving to a 2nd if he scores more than 15 goals next year.

Still, he's a former #1 pick.
For Yak's sake.....

The conditional pick becomes a second in 2018 if Nail scores 15 or more goals this year.
We can put a final 'Nail" in that coffin.
Moving the Nail contract has enabled the Oilers to sign Kris Russell to a one year deal for roughly $3.1 million.

He's left over from previous regime. At 6m doubt Oilers want him as 3c, behind McDavid and Draisatl. Hall and Yakupov went reasonable. RNH be good pickup for Habs. Allows us to trade Plekanec for good d-man.

RNH be good pickup for Habs. Allows us to trade Plekanec for good d-man. Pleks' salary may make it palatable, but would MB get a good-plus d-man or a middlin' d-man for him is the question. don't need a middlin' man, or even an average-to-good one, need better than good.

Never been a huge fan of the Nuge. He's got 5 years left at $6 million. I don't believe he's lived up to that contract to this point.

Nail's stock sure dropped. That is not a huge return for a former first overall. Sure glad the Oil picked him though (and CBJ picked Murray).

There's always that if, huh? If the Blues coaching staff can get him focused a bit more so he's not just racing all over the place, he'd end up being a steal. Even at the worst, he should have gone in the top 10 of that draft, so if you look at it that way rather than first overall, he might be worth a gamble. Certainly, a 3rd rounder or even a 2nd rounder is not a high price to pay given that risk. Or he may just be uncoachable and be a waste. Someone was going to take a chance, for sure.

He can shoot and he can skate. There's a group of veteran forwards and skilled forwards in St Louis. Stastny, Steen, Tarasenko, Schwarz, Fabbri ... It will be interesting to see what line he ends up on and what side of center. Work hard, try to fit into the group, get the little things right as much as possible - which Hitch will be on him about if he doesn't. If he can have a positive year, score 15 and pot 40 points, it's a move in the right direction for him. He's still just barely 23.

Thing is, McLellan's a pretty good coach. If he was on a different team that doesn't have good coaching, you might have more reason to be optimistic that you can adjust some of his on ice behaviours. I'd have thought McLellan would have tried many different things to get him going.
Sometimes a player does just need a change of scenery, or to have the realization hit that if he doesn't improve he's going to have a minor career.
