5th round pick going to Pens.
Had Berg held onto Mike for a couple of weeks he could have gotten the pick ...

Might not have been possible to hold onto Condon. If Berg had, someone else might have had to be put on waivers and that was already tight. If they'd sent Sergachev down it would have worked. This sort of thing will happen. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Keeping Sergachev looks like it cost us a 5th round pick, Timmins' sweet spot. Better most of the time to make a decision and go with it, even if hindsight says it was not the best.

By keeping Sergachev up they had to expose Andrighetto to waivers to get down to the 23 man roster limit. They likely would have had to send Redmond down and expose him too had they kept three goalies including Condon. Kicking the tires on Sergachev to see if he was close to being ready was deemed more important longer term. Didn't work out for the Habs but did for Condon, who gets some NHL ice time and some frequent flyer points, and Pittsburgh who gets a fifth rounder.

I understand the pickle they were in. It just seems they're on the wrong side of these asset management decisions.

I don't consider this bad asset management per se, they were bound to lose someone, and it eventually boiled down to a 5th rounder ... Not bad. I'm more upset they only gave the kid 2 games

Helps that Ottawa lost Hammond, and Anderson is living his own private hell. Obviously Ottawa isn't making this deal to start the season

Ottawa, LA, Pittsburgh for a time; having two capable goalies is becoming vital again. I think we may see a shift away from riding one goalie for 70 games. It may not go back to the platoon system of the latter 80s and early 90s, but I believe we'll see some teams cap their #1 goalie at 60-62 games.

Mike Condon will give them some depth in goal and he'll do well if left in a backup role ... but, I'm not so sure he'll help with those attendance numbers ... there were empty seats for the season-opener and there have been plenty of tickets available for their home games since ... not sure what the problem is in Ottawa ...
Cheers.

Ottawa is start off nice this season. But of course the play in net is likely to deteriorate as guys playing there return to something closer to their career norm over 82 game season.

Anderson's a good goalie. He may be able to keep it up, but he has that difficulty personal issue to deal with.
