I've looked at most of the teams who are pretty much not going to make the playoffs
Here is my list of players i wouldn' t mind seeing in our colors, what could they be had for? any chance of it ever happening
Rob Niedermayer - can play anywhere up front, decent size, fast, 29 yrs old .... 18pts this year he can't be that important to a team that isn't going to make the playoffs
Chris Gratton - big center 28 yrs old, 23pts this year 91pims, coyotes have doan, comrie, sillinger, don't think they would miss Gratton that much
Steve McCarthy - doubt chicago would give him up, but he will be a decent offensive defencemen
Steve Webb - is he still kicking around in pittsburgh? he could be had for nothing, could help us out in a rough playoff series, specially against the leafs!
Jeff O'neil - there's our sniper for koivu or ribs
Sergei Gonchar - but everyone wants him, don't think we want to give up what washington wants anyways
Mike Grier - big winger
Any of these guys available for a reasonable price?

Most of the players listed here are considered to be checking centers/wingers. I don't think that this is an area that the Habs need to improve. A scoring winger would be nice, as well as a physical d-man like Witt or Gauthier.
O'Neill is still a guy that I would want the Habs to get. He would provide a huge physical and offensive boost to the top line. Although there is still uncertainty on whether or not his character and salary would be a fit on this club I would be happy if BG could swing a trade for him.
Zednik-Koivu-O'Neill
Dags/Bulis-Ribs-Ryder
Acquiring a player like O'Neill would be what might push this team over the hump as it enters the final stretch.

Just picking players that might go from “Selling” teams… some guys that “I” think we should be interested in.
Keith Carney D – Anaheim: $2,600,000.00 (Tough big Dman) Ruslan Salei D – Anaheim: $1,750,000.00 (Shanahan said he was the best Dman in their run last year)
Jeff O’neill F – Carolina: $3,700,000.00 (Gritty forward that desperately needs a change of scenery) Sean Hill D – Carolina: $2,050,000.00 (Plays well against us all the time, I’d see if he could do the same for us)
Brian Berard D – Chicago: $2,010,000.00 (Puck Moving D that you can never have too much of)
Tyler Wright F – Columbus: $900 000 ( Gritty forward, would be great with Begin and Langdon on a 4th line) Luke Richardson – Columbus: $2,750,000.00 (Old Vet that packs some Post season toughness)
Ryan Smyth F – Edmonton: $3,450,000.00 (He’s what we need) Jason Smith D – Edmonton: $2,300,000.00 (Big, mean)
Alex Kovalev F – NY Rangers: $6,600,000.00 (Pricey but one of the best in the game) Martin Rusinski F – NY Rangers: $1,650,000.00 (We ran him out of town once…Let’s bring him back for the stretch)
Mike Eastwood F – Pittsburgh: $600,000.00 (I think he’d be a good depth player, better than most we have)
Jamal Mayers F – St Louis: $800,000.00 (Energy player, not a big pts producer at all but hits)
Robert Lang F – Washington: $5,000,000.00 (#1 In NHL/PTS, Hefty price tag but well worth it now) Mike Grier F – Washington: $1,632,000.00 (Tough player, kills penalties and fast) Brandon Witt F – Washington: $1,750,000.00 (He would look great on the PK with Sheldon!)

Just a wild idea but... how about Dazé? I know he's always injured but if he's back in time for the playoffs, he could be a huge addidtion... given his history, he could be had for cheap...
Players such as Lang, Gonchar or Kovalev are all very good players but too many teams are after them which is likely to increase their cost.

What has happened to Chad Kilger. Where is he? Can we get anything for him? Jason Ward? How bout Kilger Ward and Hossa for Eric Daze?? Could in the long run be a bad trade for Habs if Daze gets hurt and Hossa matures into a real goal scorer. Ward and Kilger I think we will be fringe career players. Others we could use as bait Dackell maybe Perrault. I would not give up on Hainsey yet. Someone mentioned Eric Cole. excellent hockey player might give up hainsey for Cole.

He has been injured all season. Why pick him up now? He does us no good in on the injury list. Just as well to wait until the off-season to mak ea trade for him. Erik Cole would be perfect. He isn't going anywhere cause everyone can afford is $800,000 price tag and not many can afford to lose such a good commodity.
