Maybe they're quietly giving up on the season and just purging what they can.

I wonder what they are going to do about goaltending. I thought Vasilesky played well in the playoffs after Bishop was injured. Who do they protect? And do they trade the other guy?

I wonder what they are going to do about goaltending. I thought Vasilesky played well in the playoffs after Bishop was injured. Who do they protect? And do they trade the other guy? There's no way they can afford to sign Bishop. He and VV have virtually the same stats this year. Given how many teams are likely to make it from the Metro division, Tampa's chances to make the playoffs are getting slimmer and slimmer. I don't see much point in keeping him around. Trade him before he suffers an injury. Problem for Tampa is that the Pens are considering a similar move with MAF. MAF put some pressure on things in the last week. He was reported to have finally spoken up about his lack of playing time. Two high-priced goalies likely on the market. MAF has 2 more years on his deal.

I don't know the defenseman we just acquired. Stats look decent. At 23 he should be still developing, usually takes 200-300 NHL games before defensmen mature enough to see what you have.
However, I am willing to bet he will turn out to be good move. In the trading department I have faith in Bergevin. He generally makes solid moves. Petry is turning out real good, we only gave up a 2nd and 3rd in so-so draft. Weber added leadership and helped powerplay with dumping a bad contract and minus player. Weise got 2 solid years out of him then flipped him for Danault. While Diaz has moved on several times. Vanek was good short term, Collberg was a draft mistake. Mitchell for late round pick good addition. Byron was good pickup. Lars Eller isn't missed, we have 2 draft picks yet to take in his trade.
I don't have much faith in his contracts Bergs passes out nor his player development but he is generally good in trading.
