I don't think Vegas will hire him. They'll be looking not only for a good coach, but one who has some marketing appeal. Personally I think you just hire the best coach, but Vegas is a different place and entertainment may well be more important than winning, especially for an expansion team.
Well, at least this removes the "who would you replace Therrien with" reasoning for not firing Therrien.

McPhee has options! Hitchcock (ya, he'll stay retired), Julien . . . for entertainment value they should talk to Columbus about Torts!

McPhee isn't exactly Mr Personalty. Of the three likely top candidates available (Hitch, Gallant, Julien) Gerard is likely the most outgoing.

Head coaches available since the 2013/14 season (shortened list because I'm only picking the guys I'd hire). I'm also ignoring in most cases, the requirement for a bilingual coach. Bill Peters, Todd McLellan Bruce Boudreau Peter Laviolette Guy Boucher Mike Babcock Barry Trotz Claude Julien I know only two of the above are bilingual, but 4 have French sounding names. All except Boucher are proven winning coaches (if you exclude that Boucher won the Spengler Cup and took the Habs farm team to the Calder final despite losing Subban for the playoffs to the Habs). Peters won a Memorial Cup, an Ivan Hlinka tournament and worked on the Team Canada coaching staff) What's my point? Have we ever let a lot of coaching talent slip away. Obviously, Bergevin feels Therrien is in that company because he's still around. Where's the valium? Bergevin has yet one more opportunity with Julien. Here's a quote from Babcock on Claude.
