from cbc.ca:
Philippe Paquet, D, Salisbury Prep School (USHSE) Not to be confused with QMJHL defenseman Jean-Philippe Paquet (also a 2005 draft-eligible defenseman), Philippe Paquet has chosen the college hockey route and will join Clarkson College in 2005-06; owns excellent size for the defense position and above-average mobility for a 6-3, 200 pounder; passes the puck with aplomb and owns a wealth of offensive upside; must prove he can compete at a higher level; will need to show more physical toughness as a pro.

Who? ? Phillipe Patek? Watch this guy? Before he's gone. We need another Archer?

Here is his write up from HF, and his coach really feels that he would be a good steal for an NHL team if taken in the draft. A good gamble for the Habs as I was wondering when they were going to take a Dman (it was a bit of a glaring need going into this draft after all). www.hockeysfuture.com/prospect/philippe_paquet

Not Mr. Irrelevant, but not far. Prospect Grade 0.0, about right? Certainly he's big and growing. Skates well. In two years we'll be faced with the decision to sign him or not. Big upside, low downside. Good pick!
Never seen him play.
Most HabsRus posters haven't seen him play.
His mother went to one of his games I think.

Hey, it was a 229th pick (second last in the draft) in exchange for losing Darren Langdon as a free agent (hmmm, which free agent generated the 230th pick?). Seems like a great pick for when he was taken. Clarkson University seem very happy to be getting him and seem to like his offensive upside (although his HS stats don't seem to support that upside quite yet, but his Quebec midget stats were good). Here is the link his new head coach's comments on him. clarksonathletics.com/News/mhock/2005/4/13/mhocrecruitsB.asp?path=mhockp.s. Someone has to give a guy picked second last some air time!!

I think complaining about a 7th round pick is, well...... Not complaining about a 7th round pick. I certainly can't name a player who was overlooked that we should have taken in his place. It's just that I don't think he will ever make it to the NHL. He's as good as anybody else left, and if he's 6'3" at 17 years old AND he can skate, it's a good pick. We couldn't use Langdon anyways. Realistically it's a non-issue.
