1. Scrub the skills competition. 2. Saturday night is a game featuring young stars. Could even be the Cherry vs Orr game. What better weekend to feature the coming year's draft picks. 3. NHL vs KHL. It worked really well as part of Rendez-vous '87. If they wanted to do more than one game, they could bring two KHL teams to play against stars from each conference.
Thoughts? Would that bring some excitement back into a weekend that's become an outright bore?

The game might end up being more competitive than desired...and the risk of injury at an ASG might nix that idea.

There should be no all-star game. There should just be a fan-fest or simply a three day rest. If they really want an all star game, have it at the end of the year.

The weekend is for kids and super-fans....to get long looks at their helmetless heroes being relaxed, casual, having fun. They'll likely leave it at that. The million dollar purse gives some incentive for NHL effort. But not much. They're all multi-millionaires anyway.

Once I heard that the million-dollar cash reward for the winning team went to the players it just distanced me away from the event even further ... maybe if that money was divvied up amongst various charities it might have some value ... that's just me, though ... heard Doug McLean suggest that maybe the answer to motivate the players might be to throw more money into the pot ... I don't have the answer to improving the event, but giving more money to these guys is not the answer ... they live privileged lifestyles as it is now ... I think icing an all-star team to take on the Cup champions might be an option (as it was back in the day), but not all the teams would be represented and that might miff a more few fans ... I don't know ... IMO, the whole event is geared towards developing a future fan base through the kids ... is there a 'meet-the-players' session over the all-star weekend ... if not, then maybe consider having one ... if they have one already maybe consider extending it ... other than that, I really don't know ... perhaps if I had more interest I'd be able come up with something else ...
Cheers.

I'm on the fence as to whether it would do anything positive.

I'm on the fence as to whether it would do anything positive. I don't think it would change too much and if it did I suspect it would only be a novelty for a short time ... as someone already pointed out, it's hard to get full-steam out of the athletes if there's a risk of injury ... owners are concerned about that, as would I if I were a season tickets holder ... not sure there is a solution to that but they need to keep generating the business through the generations of fans ... Cheers.
