Per Friedman. It had been rumoured for a little while. Nill has confirmed. They want an established top end defender for the pick. CBC panel threw Anaheim and their plethora out there.
Given who comes after Hischier and Patrick, and Dallas' position, I can see why they're shopping the pick. If they could get a Fowler for the pick, they'd have a top pair of Fowler and Klingberg.

Hmmmm....Weber?
Did you hear that one announcer tonight, going on and on about the defence corps on both teams...young, mobile, puck movers, blah, blah, blah. All true, of course. That's where the game is heading. Us....Weber. Let's move him fast before he loses value.

That's where the game is heading. Us....Weber. Let's move him fast before he loses value. That was Galley. A rare lucid moment on his part. I think the Stars are focused on the left side. Klingberg is a rhd. Hamhuis is left, and they'd like to reduce his minutes. I suppose you could play Weber on a second pair, if you're Dallas. Things fall off sharply after their first pair of Hamhuis-Klingberg. Nemeth, Oleksiak, and Lindell are all RFA. They've got less than $10 million committed to their top 4. There are decent prospects after the top 2, but no one that can jump in right away imo. Then you have to replace Weber. You're not finding a replacement on the UFA market. That means moving something out to get a replacement. It's a lateral move most likely. I'm not saying their stuck with Weber. Quite the contrary. I just don't see them getting a Subban-like player back, and if you trade him for that pick THIS year you leave yourself severely exposed and may as well strip it down.

Unfortunately, I keep coming to that conclusion myself. If we still had PK and with Juulsen and Sergachev coming on in the next 2 years, I could see tweaking and trying something to get that #1 centre. As is, we have a deteriorating back end that will only maintain the status quo once Sergachev and Juulsen make the team. A status quo that isn't good enough right now, so it has to improve. That's 2 key areas we need to fill and unless one gets a top 5 draft choice, in a good year, you're a hamster on a wheel. The Leafs future looks a heck of a lot better to me. They've got 2 young studs up front and one very good young forward (Nylander). They could use one of those to get that #1 dman they need and then they're off to the races. Us....we'll keep slogging, just making the playoffs and without a lot of luck in the draft, spinning aimlessly.

Not that it would happen but I would trade NB plus the Habs 1st for the Stars 1st and then pick Gabriel Vilardi

Not that it would happen but I would trade NB plus the Habs 1st for the Stars 1st and then pick Gabriel Vilardi As much as the Stars need defence behind Klingberg, and as thin as this draft might be, I don't think that's enough value for the Stars to budge. They've got 2 firsts now, having picked up Anaheim's first in the Patrick Eaves trade. I just don't think Beaulieu has value around the league - which as Skilly has aptly pointed out may contradict his actual production (plus minus aside). The conditions on that pick are complicated: capfriendly.com/draft/2017&round=1&tid=10&otid=1Dallas clearly wants help now, as opposed to any waiting for development. Miro Heiskanen is the type of player they need.
