I was in the perfect demographic for Batman. Boys aged 7-9. Seasons 1 and 2 were filled with great performances from Burgess Meredith, Frank Gorshin, Cesar Romero, Julie Newmar, et al. Yvonne Craig as Batgirl was introduced in Season 3 and the series fell flat. Hit TV shows (especially sitcoms) have left many actors with future casting woes...and Adam West's Batman was right up there with Bob Denver's Gilligan in terms of being labelled. I don't know how much West and Burt Ward were paid...(one fan site reports that Ward made only $350 per week for Season 1).....but, even when adjusting for the times, their pay had to pale in comparison to the salaries of leads and regulars of the 90s and beyond. Eventual salaries, per episodeSeinfeld--Jerry, $1 million; each of the 3 regulars, $600,000. Frasier--Kelsey Grammer $1.6 million; David Hyde Pierce $750,000. Friends--each of the 6 regulars, $1 million. Mad About You--Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt, $1 million each. Home Improvement--Tim Allen, $1.25 million. Everybody Loves Raymond--Ray Romano, $1.7 million. Two and a Half Men--Charlie Sheen, $1.8 million. Big Bang Theory--Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, $1 million each. That kind of cash is certainly insurance against type-casting.
