Lots of vintage footage on YouTube now. The Rocket could manage a handshake with Campbell if it meant a Cup presentation...ha! The suspension in 1955 likely robbed the Habs of the first of 6 in a row. The Canadiens were in the Finals 10 consecutive years--from 50-51 (Barilko's OT winner for Toronto) to 59-60--winning 6 Cups. Yes, only 6 teams....but nobody gave them the championship. Fierce, sometimes barbaric, battles.

Nice find, CH ... love the nostalgia ... wouldn't mind seeing the current edition to our club write their own history, but the times; they are a changin' ...
Cheers.

They are writing history, just the wrong kind.

While not related to this it is part of old time Habs hockey. I heard a small town radio announcer asked Bobby Orr for an interview. He said he would give him 2 minutes. Of the questions he asked was if Orr had to pick an all-star team who would be on it. Orr said Jacques Laperriere would be the second best defenseman in NHL during Orr's time. I was kind of suprised Orr said him as Orr played against many greats ie Potvin, Tremblay, Park, Robinson

Here's a synopsis of the 56-60 dynasty...produced in the late 80s-early 90s, as Brian McFarlane mentions that the Habs' 5-straight Cup record "has lasted through 3 decades now".

Fans of other teams would often use the "French Canadian" rule to validate the majority of Cups won by the Habs over their existence; however, nothing could be further from the truth ... yet, while the Habs had the right to select the top two Francophone players in Quebec, the Bruins had a lock on the Whitby, Oshawa (that-area-of-Ontario) corridor ... Bobby Orr played for Oshawa, but no one else had a chance to get a crack at him except the Bruins ... also note that the Bruins had a lock on Wayne Cashman and he played for Oshawa in junior, as well ... I'll have to do a more research when I get the time but I know that the Detroit Red Wings sponsored an entire minor league system to secure the rights to Nick Libett (I'll post the reference later tonight) ... Cheers. Edit: this is the reference I was talking about ...
