Gainey says that Higgins, Plekanec, Hossa, Perezhogin, and even Kostitsyn the Elder will be battling it out for 3 available forward positions.
Just for fun I've cut-and-paste (damn I rock at that!) Hockey Forecaster's talent assessments of the Feelgood Five. I will not attach names to the profiles. Guess who they are. No cheating, now!
*
1.
ASSETS: Has excellent hockey sense and playmaking instincts. Is polished in the defensive zone and not afraid of going in the corners to fish out the puck. Can line up anywhere up front.
FLAWS: May not survive the physical aspects of the NHL game, mainly due to his 5-10 frame. Isn't a true sniper and could struggle to find the back of the net in the big league.
CAREER POTENTIAL: Third line forward.
*
2.
ASSETS: Has explosive scoring ability and a nose for the net. Loves to dangle and make nifty plays. Is comfortable in pressure situations, which bodes well for his future in Montreal.
FLAWS: Is still rather raw in the defensive zone. Needs to make better use of his linemates.
CAREER POTENTIAL: First line winger.
*
3.
ASSETS: Has tremendous hockey sense and vision. Can line up anywhere and be used in virtually any game situation. Owns above-average offensive potential.
FLAWS: Isn't big enough to play a big role in the corners. May not have natural goal-scoring ability.
CAREER POTENTIAL: Two-way forward.
*
4.
ASSETS: Has an excellent shot and is very creative in the offensive zone. Possesses the size and strength to win battles in the corners.
FLAWS: Isn't polished in the defensive zone. Needs to play with more intensity game in and game out. May have to live or die with his production.
CAREER POTENTIAL: Top six forward.
*
5.
ASSETS: Displays a well rounded game. Can play effectively at either wing position and owns loads of offensive potential.
FLAWS: Lacks ideal size and strength.
CAREER POTENTIAL: Top six winger.
*
Not scientific, but fun, eh?
