Canucks continue to be trapped in that "we can rebuild and still be competitive" mindset. VAnek should help them, but isn't a good idea in teh long run. You have to lose one more year, I think, and get a top 3 pick. They got jobbed last year, but this year has a much better crop at the top of the draft.

It's not like being stuck with what appears to be a finished Eriksson. The club has a year left with the Sedins. They're untradeable, so do what you can to get the most out of them.

And they can trade him at the deadline. I often wonder if it's worthwhile to 'compete' while trying to become a contender. Unless you're really lucky (e.g. Win the lottery despite just missing the playoffs) it's so difficult to do.

Missing out on a top two pick this year hurt, but there's significant evidence to suggest that if they had picked where the odds had them, they wouldn't have picked either Hischier or Patrick.
