There are so many stats to show how systemic a problem this is in the US, and how gun reform on even a basic level can remove so much. It hurts the brain to see how entrenched NRA supporters are. But how does a lobby group with members numbering less than 2% of the whole population exert so much influence? Why aren't all gun owners members? 4.4% of the worlds pop, 44% of the worlds legally owned guns. Highest rate of murder by gun per 100k people. Among the highest rates of suicide and mental illness. Easy access to legally obtainable firearms.
This guy was white, so they labeled him a mentally ill loan wolf. If he were Arab, he'd be a jihadi terrorist of some kind and Islam would be to blame. If he were black, they'd point a finger at all black people.
Why is the second amendment without reproach? They say if they take our guns next goes free speech. Literally. That's what they say. I saw someone use Venezuela's recent bought of starvation as a result of willingly turning guns over to a government. Of course, there are millions of kids living below the poverty line in the US, going hungry. Don't see gun ownership helping them any. The Declaration/Constitution are living documents. The Constitution has been amended 27 times. That means that in 241 years governments have seen fit to make changes, additions, addenda. The White House, built by slaves, the documents written by slave owners, but someone a hundred years later said, "you know what? This isn't right." It got changed. Not without a war as a result, but it got changed.
I smell another Civil War coming on.

I'm not going to argue the mechanics of how he did it, what crushes me is that someone can be so inhuman, so bloodthirsty, so psychotic to do something like this.
He had no history and all of a sudden?
And it needed more then just an "impulse" or just "lost it". He had to organize this weeks/months in advance.

If you're mentally ill, you shouldn't be allowed to own/possess firearms of any kind.
If you own them and then become diagnosed as mental ill you should have to forfeit them. That diagnosis should cross check against ownership records.

But good luck in getting ANY changes done to their gun laws. When kindergarten kids can get slaughtered and it's deemed acceptable by people with the power to change it, I wonder if there's anything that would work?
Well, there is of course. If the people being slaughtered were the friends and families of those guys with the power to change it, it would change. Nothing hits home like having it happen to you.
