Any coach who doesn’t order his players to get a new stick after breaking rheirs is an idiot. We just spent a minute a man down until Chuck got a new stick.

Is nobody on the hands willing to hit Matthews? He’s a big guy and a good skater but if you at least got in his way you’d cut down his scoring chances.

No real flow to this period. Both are jamming up the middle of the ice.

Win or lose, you got to feel encouraged by this game. They scored three, held one of the highest scoring teams to 3, and Price made a mess of one goal, and saves one of the other two most days

It would have to be Nylander and a defenseman for me I can't see Toronto giving up on any part of their rebuild. We might be able to get guys like Gardiner or Kadri though - youngish vets but not high-end pieces. Toronto won't be giving up pieces they expect to win a Cup with.

Various observations: -Our 2nd and 3d defensive pairings looked bad on the two first-period TO goals. -Early on, both Hudon and Drouin went for a pass to a D after carrying the puck into the offensize zone.... the D then took a shot and generated a chance (and a goal), I wonder if that was in the gameplan. -Galch got a shift on the top line at RW in the first after a PK, seems like a regular occurence after a PK when Lehkonen is still tired (and presumably Pacioretty wasn't on the last PK shift) -Galch had some nice jump in the 1st, deserved that promotion even if it's just the odd shift, and earned the icetime for that PP goal, where he got the puck out of a crowd. Clearly he's not skulking and it looks good on him. -Matthews has some awesome stick skills, he can get pucks at all kinds of heights and do with he wants with them. -Price seemed out of it. None of the goals are really his fault, but he didn't come out to challenge Matthews on the winning goal, and on the 3d goal he uncharacterically lost the puck, which he'd also done earlier in the game. -Hemsky sucks. His bad pass that almost gave Toronto a breakaway 5 minutes from the end of the game should take him out of the lineup. If McCarron or Sherbak aren't ready, Holland was ok, and plenty of acceptable 4th liners wind up on waivers at some point. -Mete... it's no longer tongue in cheek that I can say he's our #2 defenseman. Great game against solid opposition.

I know his salary this year is still $6.5MM. I expect more from a guy who's going hamstring us in many ways. I have never been critical of Price before, even when he was struggling as a young goalie. But he's a vet now. He's allowed a bad game now and then because he's human. Against Buffalo he gave us .956 goaltending and then it was .714, .920, .880 and .818. Two games out of 5 where we got at least average goaltending and one could say he helped steal game #1. Thats just not good enough, despite whatever scoring woes the team has. I'm sure that in all the predictions for the season, no one suggested Price was going to provide anything but .930 goaltending. We've seen it often where a player signs a lucrative contract that guarantees his financial freedom (another topic entirely since I'd think $6.5MM does that quite nicely for me), and then coasts for a year or two. I didn't think Price had that mentality but maybe it's just human nature

They're playing with one top pairing and a bunch of guys. They even lost Yannick Weber, if that means anything
