The newest Division rival, the farm team for the Detroit Red Wings, spoiled the Dogs home opener 3-1. Griffins were already off to a good 2-0 start after starting their season last week. The Dogs were a few games behind and had a late start to their season, and took some time in the game to shake off the rust and for the young and new guys to get used to each other in a real game. With the various Edmonton additions, and the new Habs' dudes, it is quite a new team trying to find its identity. A solid second half making a real game of it against a hot team. I would expect better results down the road once they get their groove thang going. Highlights for the Hab prospects watchers: Benoit scores the only Dogs goal with his first goal as a pro, Murray gets the CHAM 820 Hardest Worker of the Game for his "Begin-like" effort including a totally pummelling of Grand Rapids tough guy Bootland, and Michaud has a decent start giving up three in what was rather one sided for the first twenty as the young boys got their sea legs. Interesting note is that Jeff Paul (Dman vet signed by Gainey in the offseason) started at forward despite having young Hab prospect Cory Urquhart in the lineup. Cory's troubles continue as he fails to make only his second AHL game with only 12 forwards in the lineup. Hmmmmm. Dogs back on the ice against a tough Rochester Amerks (less Ryan Miller thankfully) tomorrow night. ahl.leaguestat.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1001058
