Personally I thought they would be doing worse then they are now as their goaltending I felt would likely suck. A Michaud-JDD combo is freaking brutal, but it appears Michaud has been playing ok in the games I've seen but lately he's having trouble keeping the puck out of his net, at a 3.5 gaa. JDD has only 2 starts so can't really say what he will do, but last year he didn't look impressive in the games I saw. He looked good in the only game I saw this year after a rough preseason from what I'm told. Tonight I listened to some of the game but have no clue how he faired.
Once Danis gets back things should be a lot better for the young team. Hopefully JDD will pick it up and Michaud can be good but imo seems to struggle after he lets a goal in. In the past he has done better in the AHL then the ECHL, and coach Lever really seems to like him since he's been playing him most of the time.
The defense I thought would be the bigger weakness since they had only Cote and Archer coming back. Aitken and Paul add experience but imo aren't very good overall. Benoit who would have figured he would have so much success early on and Hainsey sees a ton of PP time and so far has made good use of it. Roy I like and Smith was solid from what I've seen, thanks to the Oilers for sending those two. Syvret has been ok but I don't think he will play a ton, still has things to work on imo.
The offense hasn't really done that well aside from Locke and the Oilers guys. Kostitsyn has been solid but not great imo. Milroy has been a disappointment imo. Ferland started off well but got injured. Lambert has been ok at times. Lapierre has been good, like what I see from him for sure. Murray is still looking for a freaking point. Vandy can't play hockey all that well imo.
I do think they will be ok this year if the goaltending holds up. I have my doubts about Michaud and JDD but we'll see how they do.
Next year should be a lot of fun as the Dogs should have Chipchura, Aubin, Greg Stewart, Halak, Urquhart and maybe D'Agostini although I'm not sure if his birthday is too late since he's a late oct '86 I believe. Plus if they could get say Grabovski or Korpikari to come over that would be great too.

Plus if they could get say Grabovski or Korpikari to come over that would be great too. It should be nice to have that influx of home grown offensive talent. I would really like to see how Grabovski does in NA as I hope he decides to come over next season. D'Agostini was born on Sept 23rd I believe, so would be good to go next season if they signed him. We have really had to rely on the Edmonton prospects so far this season as Jacques and Pouliot have been some bright sparks early, and Winchester seems to be holding down the fort alone these last few games. The loss of Pleky and Higgins is most noticeable. Kostitsyn just hasn't pulled it all together with any consistency yet, Locke has been doing quite well, Milroy has been invisible, and Lambert needs to produce more but is injured right now. The top two point producers are Benoit and Hainsey, so the whole forward group is just not getting the points that you would have expected out of them. Our energy and checking guys like Ferland (before his injury), Lapierre and Murray has been decent, but we cannot really count on those guys to rack up big points (like you said, Murray getting his first point will be worthy of a few cold ones in celebration). Lemieux has not been getting regular duty, so hard to tell how he will pan out as a free agent signing similar to Benoit. Let's hope they get it back on track Wednesday night against a struggling Baby Sens team. It is on Sportsnet East and Ontario for those with either of those channels (which includes moi).
