Thus far, from the Hockey News list that Dis provided, Atkinson, Marchessault, and Cogliano have signed with their current club. A number of others are likely to stay where they are.
In a game day thread this week, I saw some talk about Lars Eller. I always thought Eller was always a solid 3C, albeit not a bargain nor quite as consistent offensively as one would like.
Hypothetically, it would not be crazy for a club very thin down the middle to have an interest in a guy who is solid, not too old, and proven in a well defined role. Also, once Tavares scratches his name off the list, Montreal would know there is money to spend on at least a couple or three good hockey players. Unless the plan for the next season is to ensure the team is not remotely competitive, one has to imagine if a centre cannot be acquired via trade then someone is coming via free agency.
Realistically, though, I doubt Eller will be a target and I am not sure he would give it much consideration. During the foxhole buddy era, Eller made the mistake of publicly stating that he did not like be juggled around the lineup and ending up on more than a few occasions playing left wing. Sure, Therrien is gone but the other guy is still here so Montreal-UFA Eller is not a match from either camps' perspective. If Washington cannot sign Carlson, then I would not be surprised if they get a deal done with Eller.

Remove Mikael Backlund from the list. Calgary locked him up for six year extension (5.35 million AAV). He is a pretty nice second line centre with that strong two-way game.

It is not that he is a bad hockey player, but I pray to God that Bergevin does waste money on a player like David Perron. This season looks like an outlier performance. He is very likely to regress to his career mean or worse given that he is on the wrong side of 30. For a clincher, his playoff pedigree is scary: 55 games, 3 goals, 19 assists.
