I'm curious, what are you guys paying for cell rates?
I was at a dinner last week and the discussion came about. Figures like up to $100 per month were thrown around.
So....where, what coverage, how many gigs and what are you paying?
Also, aside from curiosity, perhaps we can uncover deals community members are not aware of and can benefit from.
.
(I'm grandfathered so my rates are irrelevant.)

(I'm grandfathered so my rates are irrelevant.) I just changed. I was with Koodo, 35$ a month for 1 gig data and more phone calls than I make, the plan is easily visible on their website. I'd put up a few hundred to buy the phone outright when I started though (I bouth 70% of it and the other 30 came over the 3 year contract). I'm now with Telus, with their government employee program: 70$ a month + tax and maybe some bogus CRTC fees, but over 2 years I pay off a new Galaxy s8, unlimited calls, texts and 7 gigs of data, which I don't see how I'll use unless I start making video calls or something (but that was the big promotion: the 1 or 2 gig plans were going to be more expensive...) I still need to slave my tablet to my cellphone so my tablet can use those 7 gigs as well. Might be useful for netflix or watching a hockey game through my bell DVR from a cottage or something.

My Telus deal I got like 7 years ago hasn't changed: $63 all in including taxes: 1 Gig, unlimited text, phone messaging, 10 favourite numbers with unlimited mins across Canada. Since I have no long distance, my Local telepohone calls I have 150 mins before 5 pm. Long distance numbers are in my favourite 10 so I don't pay anything for them.

I had been with Bell (Aliant) from 2003ish to 2015. Prices were exorbitant. I was paying $70 a month for a smartphone plan with a gig of data (not a priority for me as I'm always in a wireless network). When I was due to upgrade from my then Samsung S2 I inquired about possible incentives. The reduced purchase price of the phone wasn't anything special for a customer of my tenure and the reduced cost of the plan was minimal.
So I went shopping.
I settled on Eastlink. They provide cable and Internet services in a number of provinces, and got into the cell phone game a couple of years ago. They use the Rogers network. Rogers had a history of being spotty out here in NS, but it's been good. I only have 500mb of data, but the rest of the details are the same and I'm paying $45 a month tax included. I have a Samsung Note 5. In the end, over a 2 year contract term, it was cheaper for me to by the phone outright for $900 and sign with Eastlink than it was to stay with Bell. By a wide margin.
I've been happy. No service interruptions, strong network, etc.
My folks are with Virgin - Bell network. They're happy there. Virgin has good plans for reasonable prices and good incentives if you sign up at some place like Walmart etc. You typically end up with rebates to cover the cost of the sign up and gift cards to the store.

Rogers. upgraded because my wife decided to move into the current century and wanted a smart phone (not a smart thing to have if you don't turn the notifications off). did it in '06.
2 year plan, 2 "free" (ha!) phones (S7s) . . . 2 GB data shared, unlimited calling texts etc $70 plus $60

I'm with Telus, but with a corporate plan through my former employer. I haven't bothered informing them I'm retired and they don't seem to be bothered by it. I'm not sticking my head up, though. $67 a month all taxes included, 3 gigs of data (used to be 5 but I don't use 3 anyway), unlimited calls and texts across Canada.
I can't find anything better with the major guys. Koodo and Wind might have better plans, but I've got Telus Optik and internet so I haven't bothered. If I get cut off this plan, though, I'll check them out.

I won't have a corporate deal, but I'd like to see what a shared deal is similar to the one I have with Rogers ... Cheers.

Have you guys looked at Freedom? Their LTE is not bad but, they have a few limitations.
I've been with them since the beginning, trust me, they were cheap garbage back then but now, if you are in their area, they may be an option.
I'm paying a grandfathered $35 with unlimited everything everywhere in US/Can. Plus I can hook up to their ground network from any internet access on the planet. Makes up for the garbage I put up in the beginning.
I think the equivalent plan is/was around $55? And if you travel, the internet calling thing is a huge bonus. It hooks to their ground network and the calls are pretty clear. Also, their rates on international calls from their zones is very cheap.
But, again, don't bother if they don't have good coverage in your area.
Gripes...i almost sound like I'm pimping them...lol

I just switched to Fido... got a quebec phone number and they gave us 8gb each... Canada wide long distance... international text... 1000 long distance minutes for $49 for me and $44 for my wife... we were paying $135 for 2.5gb shared, no long distance, no intl text, my wife had Canada wide calling and I had local.
