The Canadian women are down 1-0 to the US after the first period. They haven't looked good to me. Outside of an occasional rush, the US has forced most of the play and looks more comfortable. Hopefully, it's just jitters and they'll get over it, but they've taken 3 penalties to none for the US. I saw 2 of the penalties and they were deserved and could have been avoided.

I was going to post that the fix was on, when a Canadian got taken down racing for a loose puck (and it still might be) when Canada came down on the rush and got a deflection goal to tie it. Way to go ladies!
Another penalty to Canada. Shades of Salt Lake.

Those darn Lamoureux twins are dangerous. Mini Sedins. Twins are weird. ESP. 2-1 at the end of the 2nd. Canada looking much less jittery, so hopefully they can add another one or two in the 3rd and cruise home rather than raising the blood pressure across the country.

Darn OT.
Just win it ladies. You looked gassed at the end of the third.

thought it would end this way. Canada just looked a bit slower the whole game. US carried most of the play. Probably a deserved victory on their part, but unfortunate for our ladies.

The problem I have with women's hockey is that it is too predictable. It's Canada / U.S. in every tournament final. The other countries just have not caught up.

I watched the game and beside a few chances here and there, it was all USA. They were faster, controlled the puck and make a lot more crisp passes. Canada just didn't look good outside of Poulin and the goalie. Team needs an upgrade in speed and talent. It's been like this for years since USA has been beating us constantly at the worlds.

The better team won, in all aspects both on and off the ice. Our ladies put in a gutsy effort, but when you are outshot, out-chanced, out-hustled, heavily out-skated and out-coached, walking away with a silver medal is a great accomplishment.
Some great tweets:
And this one made me laugh:

I had dvr'd the game, but turned the tube on this morning to see the anthem being played. Saves me from watching a loss I guess lol. Still hate shootouts.

To be honest, once it got to overtime, it was the only way Canada had a chance to win. They played horrible in the overtime and could generate anything with 1:35 to go end of OT power play.

Canada should have lost the round robin game to the US ... the competition is so bad, that even a poor CAN team (and USA team for that matter) can cruise to the Final.

That's the problem now. They are letting in countries just to have teams there, that have no business being there. They've had the Olympics for 20+ years now. Women playing hockey in North America = 160,000 Women playing hockey IN THE REST OF THE WORLD = 15,000 Where's the "development". Each sport has to meet certain criteria world wide to qualify as an Olympic sport. I would not be surprised if those rules were laxed for women's hockey. I'm not sure if this is true, but I thought I once heard that the 5 rings represented the fact that a sport had to be played on 5 continents to be an Olympic sport ... Women's hockey in South America or Africa? It's getting so bad now, that even pundits are floating the idea of CAN /USA play two out of three or three out of five and the "tournament" be play for bronze. I heard another broadcaster state he would not be surprised if CAN and the USA were directed not to run up the score , and the refs were directed to make sure games stayed close.

Coach Schuler reminded me of a female MT at times last night.
On most offensive rushes, only send in the puck carrier. Have the others fall back or line change. That one on four strategy surprisingly did not result in much other than turnovers.
No forecheck. Watching the swift US players exit their zone with ease every time compared to the tense pressure our ladies were under every zone exit was painful.
Putting your best down-low offensive threat and shot on the PP. You neutralized your best offensive weapon and did the key job for the Americans. That PP never really threatened.
Playing the trap and playing to try to not lose. Sure, I get that the Americans were a better team, but unleash your players every now and then. Over reliance on your goalie to keep you in the game, and she did. Sounds familiar.
Sit your young and fast players for the 20 minute four on four OT. You burnt out your vets, as they were gassed for most of the third and all of OT.

I'm not arguing the talent gap. I'm just saying taking the tournament of the Olympics won't help. The world's isn't incentive enough. No one watches them. Russia is getting better. Finland and Sweden are treading water.

If the coach shortened the bench that’s a clear preference for veterans. Yet I thought Sarah Nurse, a rookie was one of the more aggressive players we had. Probably because she wasn’t tired. I’ve always thought a coach should use rested players in OT. It’s far less risky than tired players, no matter how experienced they are.

Canada with 2 goals in 3rd. Now 4-3 Germany. 7 minutes to go.
Ehroff with a really dumb embellishment penalty to negate a German PP. 4on 4 with 5 to go.
Canada outshoots Germany 30 - 15 but lose 4-3.

Showing up for 20 minutes rarely makes up for sleep walking through 40 minutes. Bronze medal game is tomorrow. I doubt Brule plays. He gave a pretty nasty head shot to a German player and got a game misconduct for it.

Woke up at 7:30 to see Canada with a 3-1 lead. During the 2nd, they did a good job of limiting Czech opportunities. Still 3-1 after two.

Remarkable run by Germany falls short in OT. They almost got through SWE, CAN and OAR. Quite the run in the playoffs.
