Got to finally watch the Dartmouth-Havard game I taped over the weekend. Wyman had a solid game overall and picked up 1 assist, as he dumped the puck in for a linechange but it hit the ref in the skate, right near the blueline. Wyman quickly turned around and went and got the puck, fired it on net from just inside the blueline and the rebound went right to David Jones.
It's the first time I've seen him since last year. Overall I like what I saw. He's playing more of a power game, and it looks like he's gotten bigger from last season. Looks to be over 200 pounds, so at 6'2, 200+ he's got size, decent strength, skating and speed. Good physical tools, seems solid in his own end, takes the body and had some nice passes in the game.
He played on the 2nd line and saw a good deal of ice time. Was also on the ice at the end of the game, although it was 4-1 due to the goal he assisted on, which made it 4-1 after Havard scored and was pressing Dartmouth hard. He could have scored the empty net goal as the puck came between him and senior Przepiorka, so it looks like he let the senior take it and fire it into the open net to finish the game at 5-1.
I've heard his shot is one of his best assets but I haven't really seen that so far. He's got decent offensive skills but it's hard to say how much he could produce at the AHL level.
Got to like the power game he plays, would be great if his offensive skills can translate at the pro level, he's just 19 so he likely could grow a little more, mostly mass not height but it will be interesting to see what happens with him.
He was on the ice for the only goal against but his linemate turned the puck over in the netural zone and Wyman went to get it but wasn't strong enough on the puck as a Havard player jumped on it first and was able to get by JT. Wyman did backcheck hard, but if the puck had of went to his guy he would have had a hard time tying him up since he was a step or so behind him. Instead the guy with the puck made a good move on the defensmen and with the goalie down he had an open net.
I know I'll get to see Wyman again this year at least once more against Clarkson (Paquet) and maybe both Darthmouth/Clarkson games plus playoffs if they do well. Wyman makes up a solid trio of sophmores with Nick Johnson (Pens), David Jones (Avs), although I like the skills of Johnson and Jones alittle more, he's right there with them in terms of production, with 10 pts in 12 games, Johnson/Jones with 11 pts in 12. He's already tied last years assit totals with 6, and it one goal/point away from last years goals/points totals of 5 and 11 in 33 ga
