What will others on here do for the playoffs ?
I'm usually one to try and pick a non-Leaf canadian team to get on that bandwagon, but right now I'm not really feeling it. It doesn't help that my traditional backup team (Edmonton) isn't going to make the playoffs, either).
What are your strategies ? Pick a team ? Watch key games of multiple series ? Catch up on Game of Thrones and Walking dead until the final ?

Jeje, good question(s). Last season I could not stomach the playoffs after the Habs lost. This season I will cheer for Winnipeg. I guess if the Jets lose in round two against Nashville, I would adopt the Preds. In the East, I cannot stand the Atlantic Division participants and I do not want the Penguins to have anything that approaches dynasty status. For no particular reason I would not mind if the Capitals made it to the Finals.

Spirits are high in Leaf-territory....so I'm going to enjoy a few games at pubs...as long as the Leafs last.
A few Leaf-fan buddies...great guys....so we'll get together. I just have to stay away from Toronto sports' media between games, and I'll be fine.
No favourite. Preds-Jets would make for a great final.

Go Jets!!!
Go Preds!!!
After that, I hope for certain teams to lose. Leafs, Bruins top the list. Then Penguins, since I don't want them to 3peat. I'd rather Southern US teams lose quickly since they seem to be Bettman's favourites and I despise that guy Next level down doesn't hold much interest after that. I prefer fun teams to Lemaire coached teams.
Hey is the usual suspect going to post the playoff prediction thread soon? Looking forward to it. I might actually put some thought into it this year.

Pretty much. I don't know how much of it I'll watch. There is stuff I need to catch up on.

I'll watch a little but I won't be able to watch comfortably until the Leafs are out. I lived in Ontario a long time but I just can't cheer for that team. I will mostly be catching up on my Netflix list. PS: I admit to watching the Walking Dead but I think this will be my last season. IMO, the quality has dropped significantly over the last several years. I read a quote that I feel applies here - "Some shows are over, they just don't know it yet." Maybe we need to revive the TV thread.

There's a whole other vibe about gearing up to watch your team in the playoffs....especially when you KNOW it's capable of truly competing.
Used to be a perennial feeling for Habs' fans.
Sadly, it's been a blue moon occurrence over the past 25 years...with most of it accompanied by a hope and prayer.....
So, I'll be watching the truly competitive teams with envy....

No favourite. Preds-Jets would make for a great final. It would indeed. As it stands now, if they both win their first round series they will clash in the second round. It could be the best series of the playoffs, bar none. It will be a shame to see one of those two teams out by the second round. I will cheer harder for both those teams than any Eastern team. In fact, like seventeen, I will be quite focused on cheering for a lot of Eastern teams to lose: Boston, Toronto, Tampa and Pittsburgh (we can only hope it shuts Galley up...but I am already sick of the three peat rubbish).

Ha! Brain gas! My head was still in 2013, before the Jets moved to the West. Thanks, NWT!

Pittsburgh doesn't 'feel' like the same team to me that won the last two cups. Yes, they still have Sid and Malkin, but the depth isn't there. A guy like Matt Cullen, for example, who tends to score key goals and is a great face-off guy and defender, is missing. So glad he wasn't traded back to the Pens at the deadline. Somehow, they've been winning lately with incredible performances from their two centres, but they've also had games where those guys have been shut down and the depth wasn't there to rescue them. It's certainly a gut feel, but they aren't the same.
I also think Boston and the Leafs are going down. Both teams seem to have had a lot of good bounces this year, at least when I've watched them. We also know how Rask can blow up at times. Will he be able to handle the playoff pressure? The Bruins lost Carlo to injury and he's been key player on that second pairing. Will the 3rd pairing guys be able to step up? I doubt it. Mostly, though, I think goaltending will hurt them. Rask's stats are fine, it's more a gut feel again. If you can annoy him, like we used to do before we became irrelevant, he becomes a liability.
The Leafs, same thing. They are still a young team, and that defence is thin. An injury to an experienced guy like Hainsey and they'll suffer for it. It also seems that Van Riemsdyk just steps on the ice and he scores. Can that keep up, or does he go into a dry spell at the worst time for Leaf fans?

Preds baby... a well built team by a veteran management team... they need to win a cup... plus that would be a slap in the face to MT and MB...
I also cannot stand Tampa( Yzerman and pruneface) and I'm not fan of the Jets... and the Laffs ( Shanahan and their fans and the torrana media)... a cold day in hell before I cheer for them or the B's (Jacobs, Neely their fans and NESN)...
